GREENVILLE — East Carolina stayed hot with a 7-5 victory over Elon at Clark-LeClair Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Pirates have a 5-game winning streak and have won 13 of their last 15 games to improve to 20-10 for the season.
ECU is 6-0 in the American Athletic Conference and resumes league play on Friday at 6 p.m. against Florida Atlantic (20-9, 2-4 AAC).
The Pirates got an RBI single from Braxton Tramel that scored Dixon Williams in the bottom of the first inning and led the rest of the way against the Phoenix (10-18).
ECU added two unearned runs in the second on an Elon throwing error after a bunt single by Braxton Burress. Williams grounded out in the fourth, allowing Alex Bouche to come home for a 4-0 Pirates lead.
A bases-loaded walk to Jackson Alford got Elon on the board in the fifth.
Tramel and Kenan Bowman each had RBI doubles for the hosts in the sixth.
Long balls accounted for the remainder of the scoring.
Vince Fattore had a solo homer to right center for the Phoenix in the seventh. A 2-run homer by Ryan Sprock off Colby Wallace in the eighth cut ECU’s lead to 6-4.
Wallace answered that blast with a solo shot to left center in the bottom of the eighth.
Justin Szestowicki had a solo homer off Wallace in the top of the ninth.
Sean Jenkins (3-1) went four and one-third innings f0r the win. He allowed two hits, one run (earned) with two walks and five strikeouts.
The Pirates had an 11-5 lead in hits as Williams, Burress, Tramel and Bowman had two each.
