GREENVILLE — Home runs by Colby Wallace, Braxton Tramel and Davin Whitaker helped East Carolina complete a 3-game sweep of Memphis with an 11-1 win in seven innings at Clark-LeClair Stadium on Sunday.
The weekend dominance put the Pirates (15-9) at 3-0 in the American Athletic Conference and in an accustomed position in the league standings — first place. ECU has won the AAC regular season championship the last five years.
No other league team made it through the first set of conference contests unscathed.
Austin Irby had a 2-run double to left center in the second inning that scored Wallace and Dixon Williams, putting the Pirates ahead to stay.
Wallace and Tramel had back-to-back solo homers to start ECU’s half of the third.
Cade Greer homered for the Tigers (11-12, 0-3 AAC) in the fifth.
Consecutive bases-loaded walks to Wallace and Williams got the scoring started in a 5-run sixth. Tramel had a 2-run single and Irby’s sacrifice bunt brought in Wallace for a 9-1 lead.
Alex Bouche singled in the seventh before Whitaker ended the game on the mercy rule with a homer down the right field line.
Jackson DiLorenzo pitched a scoreless first inning and Sean Jenkins (2-1) finished the game for the win. Jenkins allowed just two hits over six innings with one run (earned), three walks and four strikeouts.
