GREENVILLE — Freshman Braxton Tramel hit his first home run for East Carolina to power a 3-1 win over Memphis on Saturday at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
The outcome assured the Pirates (14-9) of a win in their first American Athletic Conference series of the season. ECU goes for a sweep on Sunday at noon.
Austin Irby walked with two out in the second inning before Tramel drove a 1-1 pitch out to right center for a 2-0 lead.
Pirate pitchers Lance Williams, Bradley Pruett and Jake Hunter protected the advantage.
Williams started and went two and one-third innings. He allowed two hits with no runs, two walks and four strikeouts.
Pruett (1-2) was credited with the win as he held the Tigers scoreless for four and two-thirds innings on one hit with one walk and three whiffs. Hunter went the rest of the way for his first save.
Dixon Williams had an RBI single with two down in the seventh for an insurance run. Memphis (11-11, 0-2 AAC) got an unearned run in the eighth.
Braden Burress and Tramel each had two hits for ECU.
