FAYETTEVILLE — A 9-4 loss to UNC-Wilmingt0n ended a 5-game winning streak for East Carolina at Segra Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Seahawks (11-10) overcame a 3-1 deficit with three runs in the top of the third inning and added four runs in the fourth.
“We didn’t play well, but we will get better,” said ECU coach Cliff Godwin on the Pirate radio network.
ECU (12-9) opens play in the American Athletic Conference against Memphis at Clark-LeClair Stadium in Greenville on Friday at 6 p.m. The Tigers are 11-8 going into a game at Lipscomb on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
The Pirates scored three runs in the second inning on a sacrifice bunt by Alex Bouche and a 2-run double by Braden Burress.
UNCW scored the tying and go-ahead runs on walks with the bases loaded.
Cole Nelson had a solo homer for the Seahawks in the fourth. Kevin Jones had an RBI single and Tanner Thach had a 2-run double.
Nelson drove in a run with a single through the left side in the fifth.
A throwing error allowed an ECU run in the sixth.
UNCW led, 15-7, in hits.
Reliever Aubrey Smith (1-3) got the win in relief with four strikeouts in four innings. Ian White (2-1) was charged with the loss.
