Ethan Norby, a sophomore left-handed pitcher from East Carolina, has been named National Pitcher of the Week by Perfect Game and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
It’s the first such honor for a Pirate since Trey Yesavage was named the NCBWA Pitcher of the Month in April 2024.
Norby fanned an American Athletic Conference record 19 batters in ECU’s 7-0 shutout of then No. 24 Coastal Carolina last Friday. The Kernersville native pitched a career-high 7.1 innings without issuing a walk in the outing.
Norby’s 19 strikeouts fell just one short of the program’s single-game record and represent the highest total by any NCAA Division I pitcher this season. Alongside Ethan Young’s three strikeouts in the final 1.2 innings, the pair’s performance against the Chanticleers equaled the ECU single-game strikeout record and represented the most strikeouts by any Division I pitching staff in a game so far this season.
Norby began the mound appearance by striking out the first nine Coastal batters he faced.
