GREENVILLE — No. 24 Coastal Carolina topped East Carolina, 4-3, in 10 innings on Sunday to win the series with the Pirates, 2-1.
Blagen Pado homered off Jake Hunter (1-1) for the deciding run to lead off the top of the 10th.
ECU (7-8) got the potential tying run aboard with two out in the bottom of the 10th when Braden Burress was hit by a pitch but a ground out ended the nonconference contest.
The Pirates scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to tie the score at 3 after Burress and Dixon Wiliams had singles. Burress scored on a ground out by Jack Herring and Williams came home on a single to first by Walker Barron.
Barron led off the second with a single and scored for a 1-0 ECU lead on a ground out to second by Braxton Tramel.
The Chanticleers (12-4) tied the score in the sixth on an RBI single by Jake Books. A bases-loaded walk to Blake Barthol in the seventh gave the visitors a 2-1 advantage.
Coastal went up, 3-1, in the eighth when Walker Mitchell came home on a double play.
ECU had a 13-9 lead in hits as Barron went 3-for-5. Burress, Williams, Colby Wallace and Austin Irby had two hits each,
The Pirates start a 2-game midweek series at Virginia Commonwealth (4-10) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
