GREENVILLE — East Carolina scored the last seven points of the game for an 82-75 American Athletic Conference win over Alabama-Birmingham on Tuesday night at Willians Arena in Minges Coliseum.
C.J. Hunter scored 29 points and R.J. Felton added 23 as the Pirates moved to 14-11 overall and 6-6 in the AAC.
Felton scored on a drive that put ECU ahead to stay at 77-75 with 45 seconds left.
Four free throws by Jordan Riley and one by Trevion Labeaux closed out the Blazers (15-9, 8-3 AAC), who were led by 22 points and 10 rebounds from Yaxel Lendeborg.
The visitors had a 45-33 lead with 16:47 remaining.
“We called a timeout and said, ‘We’ve got to chip away,'” said Pirates coach Mike Schwartz on the ECU radio network. “We play 4-minute games every single day and it’s something that we’re conditioned to keep the game within that four minutes.”
A 13-2 run brought the Pirates within 47-46 with 13:16 to go.
Riley had 12 points and four assists. Cam Hayes had 10 points.
LaBeaux and Felton each had seven rebounds.
ECU made 30 of 57 field goal attempts (52.6 percent), including eight of 20 from beyond the arc (40 percent). The Pirates dropped 14 of 19 free throws (73.7 percent).
ECU goes to Charlotte (9-16, 2-10 AAC) for a 4 p.m. tipoff on Saturday. The matchup will be shown on ESPN News.
