WICHITA — R.J. Felton hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give East Carolina a 75-72 American Athletic Conference win at Wichita State on Saturday night.
C.J. Walker had 28 points as the Pirates improved to 10-9 overall and 2-4 in the AAC going into a contest at Tulsa (8-10, 2-3 AAC) on Tuesday at 8 p.m. (ESPN+).
The Shockers (11-7, 1-4) had tied the score at 72 on a dunk by Quincy Ballard with seven seconds to go.
“I looked up at the clock,” said Felton on the ECU radio network. “I saw there was four seconds left. … They didn’t pressure me up the floor, so I was like, ‘I guess I’m going to knock this down.'”
Felton hit from just left of the top of the key over a defender. The buzzer light framed the backboard just after he released the deciding shot.
The Pirates had their biggest lead at 50-38 with 15:19 remaining as they won for the third straight season on the road against the Shockers.
ECU was 11 of 23 from beyond the arc (47.8 percent), including seven of nine in the second half (77.8 percent).
Corey Washington led the hosts with 19 points and 18 rebounds.
Jordan Riley had 16 points in the win. Felton finished with 11 points and four assists. Cam Hayes had nine points and four assists.
