GREENVILLE — Jayshayne Woodard drove and scored with 10 seconds left to lift East Carolina to an 80-79 American Athletic Conference win over Temple in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum on Wednesday night.
R.J. Felton had 23 points and 12 rebounds as ECU improved to 9-7 overall and 1-2 in the AAC.
The Pirates rallied from a 50-40 deficit over the last 15:52.
“Basketball is a game where you’ve got to go to the next play and our team did a good job of that, particularly in the second half,” said ECU coach Mike Schwartz on the ECU radio network.
Temple (9-6, 1-1 AAC) had put together its own comeback after the Pirates had jumped out to a 20-13 advantage.
The Owls had a last chance to win when Zion Stanford missed on a contested lay-up with four seconds to go. ECU was awarded possession with one second left under the Temple basket after a lengthy video review.
C.J. Walker had 18 points for the Pirates before fouling out. Woodard had 15 points and former Temple player Jordan Riley had 11 against his former team.
Jamal Mashburn Jr. led the visitors with 22 points.
ECU had a 41-31 rebounding advantage and outscored the Owls, 48-38, in the second half.
The Pirates play at 19th-ranked Memphis (12-3, 2-0 AAC) on Saturday at 2 p.m. (ESPN+).
