Even amid dramatic change at the top of the program, East Carolina managed to add an abundance of young talent during college football’s early signing period for the Class of 2025 on December 4.
Most of ECU’s class had committed while Mike Houston was still head coach, and a majority had made their decisions back in June. When Houston was dismissed in mid-October there were naturally concerns about possible defections in the recruiting class.
But Houston’s replacement, defensive coordinator Blake Harrell, and the remaining staff managed to keep the class intact while adding a surprise on signing day. The Pirates wound up with 21 signees, including quarterback Cole Hodge and offensive lineman Peyton Reeder. Both originally committed to ECU as part of the recruiting Class of 2024, but delayed their enrollment to East Carolina until January 2025 while recovering from injuries.
Here’s a player-by-player look at all Class of 2025 signees. The list is, however, is expected to grow between now and the traditional signing period in February as ECU pursues other high school talent and additions through the transfer portal.
*Indicates January enrollee
STEPHEN COLLIER, Athlete (6-2, 220) River Bluff HS, Lexington, SC
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 119 Tight End nationally, No. 32 in South Carolina.
(Rivals.com) 2 stars, Unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 52 Tight End-H-Back nationally, No. 27 in South Carolina.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 124 Tight End nationally, No. 30 in South Carolina.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked tight end: Justin Jones (Class of 2009) 3 stars, No. 22 Tight End in composite rankings.
Other FBS offers: Arkansas State, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Marshall and Old Dominion.
Recruiting tale: Aaron Auer, who served previously as ECU’s tight ends coach, got an early offer in to Collier back in October 2023. When Auer shifted to a senior offensive analyst position, new tight ends coach Hunter MacKay and offensive coordinator John David Baker took over Collier’s recruitment. They persuaded him to come to campus June 13 for an official visit during which Collier learned more about how he would fit into Baker’s offense. The knowledge led him to make a verbal commitment to the Pirates on June 20.
Career notes: Collier has been a vital part of the River Bluff offense for four seasons. … He caught 15 passes for 205 yards in six games as a freshman. … In his first varsity game, he had eight receptions for 78 yards against Northwestern. … Followed his rookie season with 32 catches for 356 yards and five touchdowns while appearing in 10 games. … As a junior, Collier grabbed 46 passes for 626 yards and five touchdowns. … Capped his prep career with 46 catches for 590 yards and five more scores in 2024. … The season was highlighted by a six-catch, 140-yard, two-touchdown performance against Mauldin. … Selected for the Touchstone Energy North-South Bowl scheduled Dec. 21 in Myrtle Beach, SC … Collier is also a standout outfielder for the River Bluff baseball team.
Most recent FBS signee from River Bluff: Wide receiver Kendall Long, to whom East Carolina extended a scholarship offer, wound up being part of Syracuse’s Class of 2021. Long has played in 25 career games so far with the Orangemen, mostly on special teams.
Fun fact: Both of Collier’s parents attended the University of South Carolina, so the Gamecocks and University of North Carolina were his early favorites in recruiting.
From the film room: Collier may be the best all-around athlete in ECU’s class so far. He’s a big-body receiver who can be utilized attached to the line or set up outside. He has soft hands and good speed to get open over the middle or down field. But what really jumps out is Collier’s ability to avoid defenders and get yards after the catch. His versatility led ECU to recruit him as an athlete, meaning he could wind up playing defense or another position on offense. But if he sticks at tight end he could develop into a contributor similar to former Pirate Ryan Jones.
*KENDRIC DAVIS, Linebacker (6-2, 200) Palisades HS, Charlotte, NC
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 192 Linebacker nationally, No. 41 in North Carolina.
(Rivals.com) Unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 78 Inside Linebacker nationally, No. 42 in North Carolina.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 156 Linebacker nationally, No. 47 in North Carolina.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked linebacker: Class of 2011 product Montese Overton was awarded three-star status in the composite rankings and was rated the nation’s No. 58 outside linebacker.
Other FBS offers: Appalachian State, Army, Central Michigan, Charlotte, James Madison, Kentucky, Liberty, Marshall and Temple.
Recruiting tale: Hometown Charlotte was the first school to offer Davis back in March of 2023. But with now-ECU head coach Blake Harrell and safeties coach Damon Magazu heading his recruitment, Davis received a scholarship offer from the Pirates on June 3, 2023. He promptly took unofficial visits to ECU that September, then returned for a Junior Day function in March 2024. Those visits led to an official visit June 13-15 during which he chose the Pirates.
Career notes: Davis made the varsity as a freshman at Charlotte’s Harding University, playing both linebacker and running back. … He saw limited action that season, but a year later achieved All-South Meck 4-A Conference honors at linebacker. … When one of his coaches at Harding left for a job at newly opened Palisades High, Davis followed and played there as a junior and senior. … He racked up 119 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, five sacks and forced six fumbles as a junior to repeat as an All-South Meck 4-A selection. … Chosen to play in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas all-star game as a senior.
Most recent FBS signee from Palisades: Davis is the first FBS signee from Palisades, which just opened in 2022.
Fun fact: Davis’ mother, Sherry (maiden name Booth), was a sprinter on the track and field team at Clemson University.
From the film room: Davis is known for his tackling ability and knack for making plays in the backfield. He’s also a student of the game, who studies film regularly to find tips to beat the offense. Always plays with high energy, which was often a rallying point for his prep team.
CHASTON DITTA, Quarterback (6-0, 190) Lake Travis HS, Austin, TX
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 131 Quarterback nationally, No. 297 in Texas.
(Rivals.com) 3 stars, Unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 94 Pocket Passer nationally, No. 289 in Texas.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 134 Quarterback nationally, No. 301 in Texas.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked quarterback: Mason Garcia (Class of 2020) was rated a four-star prospect and the No. 14 Pro-Style Quarterback in the composite rankings.
Other FBS offers: Arkansas State, Colorado State, James Madison, Louisiana-Monroe, Marshall, Navy, North Texas, UNLV and Utah State.
Recruiting tale: Lake Travis offensive coordinator Tommy Mangino, who formerly worked with ECU offensive coordinator John Davis Baker at North Texas, tipped the Pirates off about Ditta. Members of the ECU coaching staff were dispatched to Austin to watch Ditta throw during spring practice. The result was a scholarship offer on May 21. An official visit to Greenville was arranged for June 6 during which Baker got more in-depth about the Pirates’ offensive system. Ditta apparently liked what he heard because he committed to ECU on June 11.
Career notes: The Ditta family moved from Houston to Austin before the 2021 season to enhance Chaston’s chances to earn a college scholarship. … Ditta worked with the Lake Travis sub-varsity as a freshman behind future UNLV signee Bo Edmundson, then saw his first varsity action as a sophomore when he completed nine passes for 13 yards and three touchdowns in three games. … A broken thumb at the start of his junior year derailed Ditta’s ascension to the starting quarterback job. … He began the year instead at receiver, making 16 catches for 211 yards and two touchdowns before taking over at quarterback. … Ditta completed 92 of 166 passes for 1,286 yards and 17 touchdowns in leading Lake Travis to five straight wins and a berth in the state 6A Division quarterfinals that season. … Completed 194 of 331 passes for 2,796 yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior. … Also rushed 59 times for 387 yards and eight touchdowns.
Most recent FBS signee from Lake Travis: Three Lake Travis players from the Class of 2024 signed with FBS programs, including offensive tackle Ezomo Oratokhai (Northwestern), safety Keiondre Lewis (North Texas) and running back Nico Hamilton (Wyoming).
Fun fact: Ditta is the 11th Lake Travis quarterback to earn an FBS scholarship since 2005, including 2017 Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield.
From the film room: Strong arm, good mechanics and great knowledge of offense. That’s how Lake Travis coach Hank Carter describes Ditta. And Carter should know. He’s coached a number of future FBS quarterbacks. Carter says Ditta has “the moxie” of former Heisman winner Baker Mayfield and his athleticism compares to current Purdue starter Hudson Card. This may be the steal of the recruiting class for ECU.
*JOSIAH DWYER, Defensive Line (6-4, 255) Marlboro County HS, Bennettsville, SC
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 218 Defensive Lineman nationally, No. 32 in South Carolina.
(Rivals.com) 2 stars, Unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 159 Defensive End nationally, No. 30 in South Carolina.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 169 Defensive Lineman nationally, No. 39 in South Carolina.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked defensive lineman Dorian Hardy (Class of 2018) was a three-star recruit rated the nation’s 54 strongside defensive end in composite rankings.
Other FBS offers: Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Old Dominion and Troy.
Recruiting tale: Dwyer’s recruitment came down to two schools — Coastal Carolina, which was the first to offer him a scholarship (Jan. 1, 2024), and East Carolina (March 30). He took official visits to both on consecutive weekends, first to Coastal on June 14 and then to ECU on June 20. But having grown up in Eastern North Carolina (Fayetteville), and the appeal of early playing time due to graduation losses, led him to commit to the Pirates on June 22.
Career notes: Dwyer played for three different high schools during his prep career. … He spent his first two seasons at Jack Britt High in Fayetteville (NC) where he accumulated 19 tackles, a sack and an interception in six career games. … Transferred to state 2-A power Clinton (NC) for his junior campaign where he enjoyed a breakout year as a two-way performer. … Helped the Dark Horses to a 15-1 record and a spot in the state 2-A finals. … Made 24 tackles, eight tackles for loss and five sacks on defense, while blocking for an offense that piled up 3,731 yards and 60 touchdowns rushing. … When Clinton coach Cory Johnson took over the program at Marlboro County (SC), Dwyer followed to play there as a senior. … He accumulated 21 tackles, six tackles for loss and two sacks as a senior. … Chosen to play in the 2024 Touchstone Energy Bowl on Dec. 21 in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Most recent FBS signee from Marlboro County: Offensive tackle Noah Henderson (Class of 2018) signed with East Carolina, where he was a three-year letterwinner and two-time team captain (2018-2022).
Fun fact: As a junior, Dwyer attended Clinton High School, which also produced former East Carolina football standouts Leonard Henry, Brian Howard and Jerry McPhail.
From the film room: Simply put, Dwyer is a MAN. He’s physically strong but combines that with great agility and exceptional speed for an athlete his size. Dwyer plays with solid technique and tackles with a purpose. He’ll need to add some size to compete every snap at the college level, but he already looks like a guy who can help the Pirates on the interior defensive front next fall.
*COLE HODGE, Quarterback (6-3, 193) Christian Academy of Louisville, Louisville, KY
In the 2024 ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 96 Quarterback nationally, No. 16 in Kentucky.(Rivals.com) 3 stars, No. 39 Pro-Style Quarterback nationally, No. 6 in Kentucky.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 28 Dual-Threat Quarterback nationally, No. 11 in Kentucky.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 100 Quarterback nationally, No. 18 in Kentucky.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked quarterback: Mason Garcia (Class of 2020) was rated a four-star prospect and the No. 14 Pro-Style Quarterback in the composite rankings.
Other FBS offers: Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Army, Ball State, Central Michigan, Charlotte, Eastern Kentucky, Georgia Southern, Liberty, Marshall, Maryland, Miami of Ohio, UAB and Western Michigan.
Recruiting tale: East Carolina targeted Hodge early as their top quarterback prospect in the recruiting Class of 2024. The Pirates offered a scholarship soon after Hodge led Christian Academy of Louisville to the first of consecutive state championships as a junior. The offer led to an unofficial visit to Greenville in April 2023, and by June Hodge had narrowed his options to ECU and Central Michigan. He took official visits to both schools in June before settling on the Pirates just five days after his trip to Greenville on June 13, 2023. Hodge wound up delaying his enrollment to ECU until January 2025 after undergoing hip surgery.
Career notes: Hodge is one of the winningest and most productive quarterbacks in Kentucky prep history. … A four-year starter at Christian Academy of Louisville — one season as a safety and three at quarterback. … Led the Centurions to a 41-3 record as the quarterback starter, including a 15-0 mark in 2022. … Ranks among the state leaders in career and single season passing yards and touchdown passes. … Completed 169 of 232 passes for 2,949 yards and 48 touchdowns as a junior in leading Christian Academy to the state 3A championship. … Was named district player of the year for his efforts. … Sparked Christian Academy to a second state 3A title as a senior when he completed 283 of 380 passes (74.5%) for 4,104 yards and 57 touchdowns. … Was 18-for-20 passing for 225 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for three more scores to claim Most Valuable Player honors in the 41-16 championship win against Bell County. … Repeated as district player of the year.
Most recent FBS signee from Christian Academy of Louisville: One of Hodge’s top targets, Class of 2022 receiver Easton Messer, signed to play at Western Kentucky. In three seasons there, Messer has caught 88 passes for 1,170 yards and nine touchdowns.
Fun fact: Hodge’s head coach at Christian Academy is former Louisville and NFL quarterback Hunter Cantwell, and the team’s quarterback coach is ex-Louisville quarterback and Super Bowl champion Chris Redman.
From the film room: What’s not to like about Hodge? He has a big arm, delivering throws with a quick, slingshot release. He can throw deep with touch or fire a bullet into small spaces. Hodge is also a mobile runner, who can hurt teams with his legs when the pocket collapses. Because of the quality mentors he’s been around, including former USA Today All-American and ex-Louisville QB Gerry Ahrens, Hodge handles the mental aspects of the position with calm and confidence.
*CONNOR HODGE, Wide Receiver (6-1, 160) Christian Academy of Louisville, Louisville, KY
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 145 Athlete nationally, No. 20 in Kentucky.
(Rivals.com) 2 stars, Unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 192 Wide Receiver nationally, No. 13 in Kentucky.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 295 Wide Receiver nationally, No. 20 in Kentucky.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked wide receiver: Jabril Solomon (Class of 2014) was a three-star prospect rated the No. 67 wide receiver nationally in the composite recruiting rankings.
Other FBS offers: Ball State, Central Michigan and Georgia Southern.
Recruiting tale: This was an easy one for the Pirates. After his older brother and quarterback Cole Hodge signed to play for ECU in the Class of 2024, Connor was quick to announce his intention to become a Pirate, too. He was offered a scholarship on June 10, 2023, and became the first member of the recruiting Class of 2025 on August 31, 2023.
Career notes: A three-year varsity starter at Christian Academy. … Helped team to back-to-back state titles as a sophomore and junior. … The Centurions will play for a third straight state crown on Friday (Dec. 7). … A first-team all-state and all-district performer as a sophomore at wide receiver. … Ranked second in the state with 1,494 receiving yards as a junior and led the state with 11 interceptions on defense. … Had 56 tackles and four tackles for loss along with those picks. … Replaced brother Cole at quarterback as a senior. … Earned 3A All-District honors at quarterback this season.
Most recent FBS signee from Christian Academy of Louisville: Older brother Cole Hodge (Class of 2024) preceded Connor in signing with East Carolina. Cole, however, delayed his entrance to ECU until January 2025 to recover from hip surgery.
Fun fact: Connor once made 13 3-point shots in a basketball game as a sixth grader.
From the film room: Another versatile, all-around athlete who could fit in at East Carolina in a variety of places. Hodge will start out at receiver where he excels at making yards after the catch. He runs tight routes and is the quintessential slot receiver, capable of working underneath or getting deep. Hodge makes a lot of acrobatic catches, which should endear him quickly to fans at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
*TAVIUS HORNE JR., Cornerback (5-11, 160) St. Thomas Aquinas HS, Fort Lauderdale, FL
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 139 cornerback nationally, No. 196 in Florida.
(Rivals.com) 3 stars, Unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 58 Cornerback nationally, No. 83 in Florida.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 97 Cornerback nationally, No. 110 in Florida.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked cornerback: Antione Jackson (Class of 2023) was assigned four-star status and ranked the nation’s No. 22 cornerback prospect by Rivals.com.
Other FBS offers: Bowling Green, Colorado, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Georgia Tech, Indiana, James Madison, Louisville, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Stanford, Syracuse, Temple, UAB, Western Michigan and West Virginia,
Recruiting tale: Horne piled up an impressive list of scholarship offers — 16 or more from FBS programs — and made unofficial visits to several schools between January and June. He trekked to Georgia Tech in early February, Indiana in March and Louisville in April. Horne narrowed his list of schools to Indiana, Louisville, South Florida, West Virginia and East Carolina on April 28. The Pirates, who offered him in February, brought him to campus for an official visit on June 20. The trip resulted in Horne’s verbal commitment on June 22.
Career notes: Began his prep career at Atlantic High in Delray Beach. … As a sophomore at Atlantic, Horne piled up 47 tackles, made two interceptions and broke up six passes. … The effort earned him honorable mention on the All-County squad chosen by the Palm Beach Post & Sentinel. … Transferred to St. Thomas Aquinas as a junior. … In five games as a junior Horne made 12 tackles. … Helped the Raiders to a 14-1 record and No. 9 ranking in the final national high school football poll.
Most recent FBS signee from St. Thomas Aquinas: The Warriors had 13 players from its Class of 2024 sign with FBS programs, including four with Miami. Cornerback O.J. Frederique has started the last two games for Miami and four overall this season. He’s accumulated 30 tackles for the Hurricanes.
Fun fact: Horne is a decorated sprinter, who was a Junior Olympic All-American in 2021. As a sophomore he finished third in the Florida High School Athletic Association’s 200-meter dash with a time of 21.51.
From the film room: A sticky, in-your-face corner whose speed makes him hard to shake. Horne’s football IQ allows him to diagnose plays on the run, and that, in combination with his super reaction time puts him in position often to create big plays. He’s also more physical than his size would indicate, but he’ll need to add some weight to compete at the next level.
DERRION HORSLEY, Cornerback (6-2, 185) East Coweta HS, Sharpsburg, GA
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 91 Cornerback nationally, No. 107 in Georgia.
(Rivals.com) 3 stars, Unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 141 Cornerback nationally, No. 158 in Georgia.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 117 Cornerback nationally, No. 105 in Georgia.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked cornerback: Antione Jackson (Class of 2023) was assigned four-star status and ranked the nation’s No. 22 cornerback prospect by Rivals.com.
Other FBS offers: Georgia State, Marshall, Mississippi State, South Florida, Troy and Western Kentucky.
Recruiting tale: In the biggest surprise of the early signing period, the Pirates grabbed up Horsley after he had previously committed to Mississippi State. ECU was one of the finalists for Horsley, who took an official visit to Greenville on June 6. But he opted to make a pledge to Mississippi State a week later. He maintained that commitment until Nov. 20 when he decided to re-open his recruitment. The Pirates jumped back in quickly and signed Horsley to a letter of intent on Dec. 4.
Career notes: Starter for three seasons at East Coweta, appearing in 28 games. … Recorded 75 career tackles, two tackles for loss, intercepted three passes and had 18 pass breakups. … Produced 38 tackles, 13 pass breakups and an interception as a sophomore. … Also caught three passes for 56 yards and three touchdowns on offense. … Followed up with 20 tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions and three pass breaksup as a senior. …
Most recent FBS signee from East Coweta: The Indians had two players in the Class of 2024 sign with FBS programs. Offensive tackle Zach Clayton joined Middle Tennessee State and long snapper Keton McNutt signed with Auburn.
Fun fact: Horsley provided the game-winning points back in August when he returned a kickoff 78 yards for a touchdown to beat Starr’s Mill.
From the film room: Horsley is a big, long corner with excellent closing speed. He consistently wins jump balls in pass coverage and plays the run with an aggressive, physical style. Horsley’s athleticism really comes to the forefront when he’s returning kickoffs. He’s a dynamic return man who looks like he’s going to go all the way every time he touches the ball.
BERNARD LACKEY, Safety (6-2, 175) Newton HS, Covington, GA
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 174 Safety nationally, No. 200 in Georgia.
(Rivals.com) 3 stars, Unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 178 Cornerback nationally, No. 221 in Georgia.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 138 Cornerback nationally, No. 165 in Georgia.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked safety: Lucas Thompson (Class of 2012) was a three-star prospect ranked the No. 26 Safety nationally in the composite rankings.
Other FBS offers: Connecticut, Georgia State, Michigan State, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, West Virginia and Western Michigan.
Recruiting tale: “Nando” announced a Top 10 in April that included Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Mississippi, N.C. Central, Pittsburgh and West Virginia, but no East Carolina. But the Pirates joined the picture just days after that reveal when safeties coach Damon Magazu offered a scholarship on May 8. Things moved quickly from there with Lackey coming to campus on June 20 for an official visit, followed by his verbal pledge June 22.
Career notes: Lackey’s prep career spanned two Covington, GA, schools just outside of Atlanta. … He began his career at Alcovy High as a sophomore playing linebacker. … Picked off two passes against Eastside that season to earn Chik-fil-A Salem Bridge Player of the Week honors. … Made 40 tackles to earn All-Region 3-AAAAAA honorable mention. … Made the All-Region 3-AAAAAA first team as a junior. … Also named to the Covington News All-County first team. … Selected to play in the GACA/BSN All-Star Game for juniors in Dec. 2023. … Moved over to Newton for his senior season and helped the Rams to a 7-5 finish.
Most recent FBS signee from Newton: Linebacker Quintavion Norman (Class of 2024) signed with Kentucky, but has not played as a true freshman. Wide receiver Keon Davis (2024) signed with Georgia Southern, but also hasn’t seen action this season.
Fun fact: Bernard is the son of former East Carolina cornerback Bernard Lackey Sr., who played for coach Steve Logan in the 1990s.
From the film room: Like father, like son. The younger Lackey is cat-like quick, and because of his track speed can make rapid adjustments in coverage. Those attributes also help him get to the point of attack quickly, whether it’s tracking a pass or pursuing a ballcarrier. Flash back to 1995 and this evaluation probably mirrors those written about his father.
*EDDIE LOVE Jr., Running Back (5-8, 175) Fort Walton Beach HS, Fort Walton Beach, FL
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 71 Running Back nationally, No. 107 in Florida.

(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 88 Running Back nationally, No. 84 in Florida.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked running back: Marquez Grayson (Class of 2013), from Lexington, NC, was rated a 3-star prospect and the nation’s No. 28 running back in composite rankings.
Other FBS offers: Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Buffalo, Colorado, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern, Liberty, Louisiana, Marshall, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Southern Miss, Toledo, Troy, Tulane and West Virginia.
Recruiting tale: Tulane emerged as Love’s early favorite and became one of four schools to get official visits scheduled. The Green Wave (June 13-15), West Virginia (June 7-9) and Pittsburgh (June 20-22) were all set up, but cancelled after Love took his official to ECU on June 6. Offered back on April 11 by the Pirates, the trip to Greenville sealed the deal and he committed to ECU on June 10.

Most recent FBS signee from Fort Walton Beach: Class of 2024 linebacker Zavier Hamilton signed with South Florida, where he’s played in one game this season.
Fun fact: Love was a regional 100-meter dash champ as a junior with a time of 10.64. He also posted personal bests of 22.21 in the 200-meter dash, 49.19 in the 400 and recorded a 20 foot, 2.25-inch long jump.
From the film room: Speed is Love’s greatest asset, making him a threat to go all the way on any given play. He’s also extremely versatile, capable of creating big plays rushing, receiving or even returning kicks. Love has the stature and attributes similar to former ECU great Keaton Mitchell.
JORDAN DAVID MILES, Linebacker (6-1, 200) Grissom HS, Huntsville, AL
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 202 Linebacker nationally, No. 84 in Alabama.
(Rivals.com) 2 stars, Unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 104 Outside Linebacker nationally, No. 55 in Alabama.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 154 Linebacker nationally, No. 62 in Alabama.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked linebacker: Class of 2011 product Montese Overton was awarded three-star status in the composite rankings and was rated the nation’s No. 58 outside linebacker prospect.
Other FBS offers: Arkansas State, Air Force, Army, Central Michigan, Georgia State, Memphis, Toledo and UAB.
Recruiting tale: Miles actually took an official visit to ECU (June 20) before he reportedly had an offer from the Pirates. That came on June 28 and he committed on the spot. He chose ECU over Arkansas State, where he made his only other official visit on June 13.
Career notes: Big-time athlete who starred in football, basketball and track at Grissom High. … A two-year starter in football for the Tigers. … Had 60 tackles, six tackles for loss and two sacks as a junior. … “J.D.” was named to the All-City squad after a stellar senior season in which he made 93 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception. … Also had nine quarterback hurries and four pass breakups. … One highlight of senior season occurred when Miles made 12 tackles, six tackles for loss and two quarterback pressures in a loss to Huntsville in September.
Most recent FBS signee from Grissom: Defensive end Kahlil Sanders (Class of 2021) signed with Kentucky, where he’s played in 39 games over the last three season and compiled 48 tackles.
Fun fact: Miles’ father, Darrell Miles Sr., played safety at California from 1993-94 and is the defensive backs coach at Grissom.
From the film room: A highly motivated athlete, Miles never takes a play off. That served him well as a senior when he spent half his time in opposing backfields. Miles is versatile enough to play outside or inside linebacker, which could make him a candidate for early playing time with the Pirates.
DOMINICK MOODY, Defensive Lineman (6-2, 260) North Cobb HS, Kennesaw, GA
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 215 Defensive Lineman nationally, No. 197 in Georgia.

Other FBS offers: Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Buffalo, Coastal Carolina, Connecticut, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Liberty, Maryland, Massachusetts, South Florida, Temple, Toledo, UAB, Western Kentucky and Western Michigan.
Recruiting tale: Georgia Southern was the first to offer Moody on Jan. 1, 2023 and would battle ECU (Dec. 2023 offer) into the summer of 2024 for his services. But Moody would take his only official visit to Greenville on June 6 and committed to the Pirates 10 days later.
Career notes: A three-year varsity standout at North Cobb. … Moody has been a two-way player for the Warriors since his sophomore season. … He earned second-team All-Region 5 7-A honors as a sophomore. … Named first-team All-Region 5 7-A as a junior. … Helped North Cobb produce an 11-1 record and reach the second round of the state 6-A playoffs as a senior. … “Dom” made 46 tackles, six tackles for loss and six sacks in 11 games in 2024.
Most recent FBS signee from North Cobb: Running back David Eziomune (Clemson), cornerback Elijah Lee (Coastal Carolina) and cornerback Phillip Gladney (Georgia Southern) all signed from North Cobb’s Class of 2024. Eziomune has seen action in three games this season for the Tigers, rushing 10 times for 62 yards.
Fun fact: Moody competed in USA Wrestling events from age 12-14 and as a junior finished third in the Region 5 tournament for North Cobb in the 285-pound weight class.
From the film room: Moody is super quick coming out of his stance and is heavy handed with his initial punch. The latter often leaves those trying to block him off balance, setting them up to be flattened or left grasping at air. Like Dwyer, Moody needs to add some weight to handle the massive linemen he’ll encounter at the college level. But he has plenty of room to grow and the talent to become a factor very early for the Pirates.
*KALEB MORROW, Tight End (6-6, 240) Apex HS, Apex, NC
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 119 Tight End nationally, No. 42 in North Carolina.
(Rivals.com) 2 stars, Unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 49 Tight End nationally, No. 47 in North Carolina.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 110 Tight End nationally, No. 46 in North Carolina.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked tight end: Justin Jones (Class of 2009) received three stars and was rated the No. 22 tight end nationally in composite rankings.
Other FBS offers: Appalachian State, Charlotte, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State and Temple.
Recruiting tale: East Carolina joined the pursuit of Morrow early during his junior season. He made multiple unofficial visits to campus between January and mid-June, but also snuck in trips to Appalachian State, Duke and Liberty during that time frame. ECU’s coaching staff also attended Apex games and often dropped in to check in on Morrow. Those efforts paid off when, after an official visit to ECU on June 13, Morrow chose the Pirates over Appalachian State on June 16.
Career notes: Morrow was building a reputation on the basketball court in the AAU ranks in Durham where he was mentored by former Xavier player Kevin Frey. … When Frey was named head boys’ basketball coach at Apex, Morrow transferred to play for him. … Morrow also played varsity football as a freshman at Apex, working as a linebacker and defensive end. … New football head coach John Mozerka suggested a change to tight end where Morrow caught eight passes for 85 yards and four touchdowns as a sophomore. … He emerged as one of the state’s top tight ends as a junior, catching 30 passes for 382 yards and two touchdowns. … Morrow had a season-high six receptions for 107 yards against Holy Springs. … Earned first-team All-Southwest Wake Athletic Conference honors. … Made 19 catches for 260 yards and two touchdowns in nine games as a senior.
Most recent FBS signee from Apex: Linebacker Sio Moore (Class of 2008) signed with Connecticut, where he became an All-Big East Conference pick and amassed 274 career tackles from 2008 to 2012. Moore was a third-round NFL Draft pick in 2013 and played 46 career games while making 218 tackles.
Fun fact: Morrow’s mother works at Duke University Hospital.
From the film room: Athletic and big is a combination that helped Morrow overwhelm many defenders at the high school level. He has excellent hands and is sneaky fast, which allows him to get downfield quickly. Over the last year, Morrow has also gotten more physical and become an excellent blocker. There is some thought that Morrow may wind up playing defense at ECU, but there’s a lot of positives to imagine if he remains at tight end.
*PEYTON REEDER, Offensive tackle (6-5, 290) Metrolina Christian Academy, Indian Trail, NC
In the 2024 ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 144 Offensive Tackle nationally, No. 47 in North Carolina.
(Rivals.com) 2 stars, unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 126 Offensive Tackle nationally, No. 42 in North Carolina.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 81 Offensive Tackle nationally, No. 62 in North Carolina.
Other FBS offers: Army, Charlotte, Georgia Southern, James Madison, Marshall and Maryland.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked offensive lineman: D’Ante Smith (Class of 2016) was a three-star prospect ranked the nation’s No. 116 offensive tackle prospect in the composite ratings.
Recruiting tale: Former ECU offensive line coach Steve Shankweiler made the initial recruiting contact with Reeder following his junior season in 2022. Shankweiler retired in January, and his replacement, Allen Mogridge, picked up the pursuit of Reeder. The Pirates offered a scholarship when Reeder was on campus in late March for a Junior Day event. By the time he scheduled an official visit to ECU in early June, Reeder was pretty sure he wanted to become a Pirate. The visit removed any doubts and Reeder announced he was joining the recruiting Class of 2024 on June 12, 2023. A foot injury forced Reeder to delay his enrollment at East Carolina until January 2025, so he reclassified to the ’25 class.
Career notes: A basketball standout in middle school, Reeder came out for football for the first time as a freshman. … He began the year on the Metrolina junior varsity before being promoted to the varsity three weeks into the season. … Gained varsity experience at left tackle as a freshman before becoming a full-time starter as a sophomore. … Went on to become a three-time All-N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Western pick. … Twice named to the NCISAA all-state squad. … Made the Charlotte Observer’s all-area team as a junior. … Produced 90 pancake blocks and didn’t allow a sack in 10 games as a senior. … Named Captain of the Year by the S.C. Sports Report in early December.
Most recent FBS signee from Metrolina Christian Academy: Tyrek Funderburk, a cornerback in the Class of 2018, originally signed with FCS Richmond. But Funderburk spent his final year of college eligibility at Appalachian State, qualifying him for this category.
Fun fact: Reeder’s father, Thomas, starred in baseball at Sun Valley High School and was a first baseman at Western Carolina University in the late 1990s.
From the film room: Reeder’s senior highlight film features him simply burying defenders again and again. He comes out of his stance with great leg drive and with his long arms delivering a punch that more than often sent potential pass rushers reeling backward. There is probably some work to be done in ECU’s strength and conditioning program before Reeder is ready to see significant action. But it won’t be long before he’s competing for a starting job at tackle.
*CAYMAN REYNOLDS, Tight End (6-4, 225) Sonoraville HS, Calhoun, GA
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 95 Tight End nationally, No. 165 in Georgia.
(Rivals.com) 3 stars, Unranked.
(ESPN.com) Unranked.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 58 Tight End nationally, No. 186 in Georgia.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked tight end: Justin Jones (Class of 2009) was awarded three stars and rated the No. 22 tight end nationally in composite rankings.
Other FBS offers: Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Colorado State, Eastern Michigan, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Louisiana-Monroe, Memphis, Michigan State, Middle Tennessee State, Old Dominion, Toledo, UAB and Western Kentucky.
Recruiting tale: Reynolds had attended Junior Day events at Coastal Carolina (February) and Georgia Tech (January) when a flurry of offers, including one from East Carolina, followed in March. ECU coaches got a close-up look when on campus at Sonoraville in May, which led to an official visit to Greenville being scheduled for June 20. First, Reynolds took an official visit to Georgia Tech on May 31. Three days later he released a list of his top five schools that featured ECU, Georgia Tech, Colorado State, Michigan State and Memphis. Although some recruiting services were touting Tech as Reynolds’ favorite, he wound up committing to the Pirates a week after his official visit on June 27.
Career notes: A three-year varsity player at Sonoraville, Reynolds received his first significant playing time as a junior. … He caught 21 passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns that season to earn first-team 2A All-Region 7 honors by the Georgia High School Football Daily. … Increased those statistics to 58 catches for 670 yards and five touchdowns as a senior in 10 games … Had biggest outing as a senior with 12 catches for 150 yards and a touchdown against Lake View-Ft. Oglethorpe. … Lists 36-inch vertical jump.
Most recent FBS signee from Sonoraville: Kenny Cooper (Class of 2016) signed with Georgia Tech, where he appeared in 38 games and made 23 starts, all at center, between 2016 and 2020.
Fun fact: Reynolds saved the lives of two men last January by pulling them out of burning cars following a two-car accident. He also has a first-degree black belt in karate.
From the film room: Reynolds is still a bit of a diamond in the rough. But the potential is evident. He displays strong hands, exhibits above average speed for a man of his size and doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty as a blocker.
ANGELO ROSS, Cornerback (6-1, 170) Mount Saint Joseph HS, Baltimore, MD
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 153 Cornerback nationally, No. 50 in Maryland.
(Rivals.com) 2 stars, Unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 163 Cornerback nationally, No. 57 in Maryland.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 103 Cornerback nationally, No. 24 in Maryland.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked cornerback: Antione Jackson (Class of 2023) was assigned four-star status and ranked the nation’s No. 22 cornerback prospect by Rivals.com.
Other FBS offers: Akron, Buffalo and Miami of Ohio.
Recruiting tale: East Carolina coaches Dyrell Roberts (receivers) and Jules Montinar (cornerbacks) first noticed Ross after a big junior year in which he collected nine interceptions, the second-highest total in the state of Maryland. They offered Ross a scholarship on April 24. But it wasn’t until Mount Saint Joseph coach Donald Davis escorted several of his players to North Carolina in June that Davis saw an opportunity to visit ECU. An official visit by Ross and his parents on June 13 was so impactful that he offered his verbal commitment five days later.
Career notes: Ross played on the Mount Saint Joseph varsity as a 5-foot-10, 150-pound freshman and sophomore, but so little action … After adding 20 pounds and three inches during the summer after his sophomore season, he earned a starting job in the secondary as a junior. … Ross wound up ranking second in the state of Maryland with nine interceptions as a junior. … The performance earned him all conference honors. … He added four more picks as a senior along with 600 all-purpose yards and seven touchdowns to repeat all-conference honors and was a second-team all-state pick. … Set the school record with 14 career interceptions.
Most recent FBS signee from Mount Saint Joseph: Class of 2024 edge Sahir West signed with James Madison but is being red-shirted this season.
Fun fact: Ross is the second player developed under Mount Saint Joseph coach Donald Davis to sign with East Carolina. As head coach at Cardinal Gibbons High in Baltimore, Davis also mentored future ECU linebacker Derrell Johnson. Johnson was a four-year starter for the Pirates who amassed 221 tackles, 35 tackles for loss and 19 sacks between 2010 and 2013.
From the film room: Ross is a corner with great instincts. He specializes in man-to-man coverage, is a sure tackler, has a knack for producing turnovers and does it all effortlessly. Ross’ speed also makes him a strong candidate to return kicks and play on special teams early at East Carolina.
DURANTE SPEER, Safety (6-2, 180) Columbia HS, Decatur, GA
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 147 Safety nationally, No. 179 in Georgia.
(Rivals.com) Unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 147 Safety nationally, No. 215 in Georgia.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 165 Safety nationally, No. 195 in Georgia.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked safety: Lucas Thompson (Class of 2012) was a three-star prospect ranked the No. 26 safety nationally in the composite rankings.
Other FBS offers: Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Kent State and UAB.
Recruiting tale: A big junior year by Speer caught the attention of ECU’s coaching staff, which dispatched safeties coach and former Pirate standout Damon Magazu for a face-to-face meeting in Decatur on Feb. 1. Magazu offered Speer a scholarship during that visit, leading to an unofficial trip to Greenville to watch the Pirates during spring practice. Speer would make unofficial visits to Coastal Carolina and Georgia State in April before an official trip to ECU on June 6. Interactions with Magazu and safety Dontavius Nash during that trip led to Speer’s commitment on June 8.
Career notes: Speer began his high school career as a freshman on the varsity at Tower High in Decatur. … He played in one game at Tower in 2021, catching a pass for three yards. … “D.J.” transferred to Columbia for his sophomore season, where he played behind future college recruits Jaden Baugh and Amarion Fortenberry in the secondary. … Became a starter in 2023 on a team that limited opponents to 19.8 points a game and reached the third round of the state 2-A playoffs. … Speer had 44 tackles, a sack and an interception in 12 games as a junior. … Made 60 tackles, a tackle for loss and an interception in 12 games as a senior.
Most recent FBS signee from Columbia: Class of 2024 running back Jaden Baugh signed with Florida and leads the Gators in rushing with 603 yards this season as a true freshman.
Fun fact: Speer’s grandfather, Eddie Sheats, played defensive line for Kansas in the early 1970s and was selected by the Washington Redskins in the 1973 NFL Draft. His father, Terrence, was a cornerback at Alabama A&M and cousin DeMario Minter is a former NFL cornerback.
From the film room: A bit of a late bloomer, Speer is a safety who plays with the mentality of a linebacker. He likes to mix it up and isn’t shy about unloading on a ball carrier. Speer is a solid pass defender with excellent speed and quickness. Just an all-around athlete who, with time, can develop into an all-star performer for the Pirates.
*JONATHAN STOKES, Offensive Line (6-4, 285) Randleman HS, Randleman, NC
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 198 Interior Offensive Lineman nationally, No. 48 in North Carolina.
(Rivals.com) 2 stars, Unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 17 Center nationally, No. 49 in North Carolina.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 74 Interior Offensive Lineman nationally, No. 56 in North Carolina.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked offensive lineman: D’Ante Smith (Class of 2016) was a three-star prospect ranked the nation’s No. 116 offensive tackle prospect in the composite ratings.
Other FBS offers: Charlotte.
Recruiting tale: East Carolina’s coaching staff initiated contact with Stokes last November by first following him on X, formerly known as Twitter. Former Pirate head coach Mike Houston and assistant Roy Tesh then visited Stokes at Randleman High and extended an invitation to attend a Junior Day function in Greenville on January 28. Stokes was offered a scholarship during the visit. Although he knew he wanted to become a Pirate, Stokes first went home to ponder the decision. It didn’t take long for him to make his decision, announcing a verbal commitment on March 23.
Career notes: A three-year varsity starter for Randleman. … Played tackle as a freshman when he received a late-season promotion to the varsity. … Made the switch to center as a sophomore. … Helped the Tigers to a 10-2 finish in 2023 during which he was named to the All-Randolph County team and first-team Piedmont Athletic 1-A/2-A Conference. … Selected to represent North Carolina in the annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas all-star game as a senior.
Most recent FBS signee from Randleman: Class of 2018 tight end Trey Ross signed with Appalachian State. Ross lettered three seasons for the Mountaineers.
Fun fact: As an eighth grader, Stokes met NASCAR legend Richard Petty, who is a former Randleman football player and local resident.
From the film room: A true center who despite his size still has room to grow. Stokes handles snaps like a pro and quickly engages defenders after surrendering the ball. There will be some growing pains as Stokes adjusts to the college level, but he has the raw ability to get there.
KENDALL WALTON, Offensive Line (6-5, 300) Lamar HS, Lamar, SC
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 155 Offensive Tackle nationally, No. 34 in South Carolina.
(Rivals.com) 3 stars, Unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 131 Offensive Guard nationally, No. 33 in South Carolina.
(On3.com) Unranked.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked offensive lineman: D’Ante Smith (Class of 2016) was a three-star prospect ranked the nation’s No. 116 offensive tackle prospect in the composite ratings.
Other FBS offers: None
Recruiting tale: The Pirates got involved with Walton last summer when they extended an offer in August. He came to campus Sept. 27 to watch the Pirates beat UTSA. The experience left an impression on Walton, who committed to ECU on Oct. 15.
Career notes: Walton was a three-sport athlete at Lamar, competing in football, basketball and track. … He was a three-year starter on the offensive line for the varsity football squad. … Named the team’s Offensive Lineman of the Year as a senior. … Selected for the SCFCA Class A All-State squad as a sophomore and junior. … ABC 15 All-WPDE Zone pick as a junior and senior. … Selected to represent South Carolina in the annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas all-star game in December. … Placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 43-3.75 at the South Carolina Class A event as a junior. … Finished third in the regionals in the javelin with a throw of 112-9.
Most recent FBS signee from Lamar: Class of 2021 offensive tackle Anthony Walton signed with Coastal Carolina.
Fun fact: Kendall’s older brother, Anthony, is an offensive lineman at Coastal Carolina. Anthony has lettered three straight seasons with the Chanticleers.
From the film room: Walton is capable of playing guard or tackle, but spent most of his prep career at left tackle. He delivers a mean hand punch off the snap that sent prep defenders reeling consistently. Walton has the agility to pull or trap to make blocks, too. Another solid addition to ECU’s blocking corps.
*JONATHAN WILLIAMS, Wide Receiver (5-10, 160) Havelock HS, Havelock, NC
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 229 Wide Receiver nationally, No. 35 in North Carolina.
(Rivals.com) 3 stars, Unranked nationally, No. 29 in North Carolina.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 104 Athlete nationally, No. 37 in North Carolina.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 266 Wide Receiver nationally, No. 43 in North Carolina.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked wide receiver: Jabril Solomon (Class of 2014) was a three-star prospect rated the No. 67 wide receiver nationally in the composite recruiting rankings.
Other FBS offers: Appalachian State, Boston College, Buffalo, James Madison, Liberty, Old Dominion and West Virginia.
Recruiting tale: Now he’s here, now he’s not. That sums up the recruitment of Williams. Playing at nearby Havelock, where ECU has experienced great recruiting success through the years, he gave the Pirates a verbal commitment back on June 8. But when ECU dismissed head coach Mike Houston in November, Williams backed off his pledge and committed to James Madison. But with other coaches who helped recruit him at ECU remaining intact, he decommitted from JMU on Dec. 4 and signed with the Pirates.
Career notes: The New Bern Sun Journal’s All-Area Offensive Player of the Year as a junior when he completed 80 of 134 passes for 995 yards and nine touchdowns, while rushing for 1,333 yards and 16 scores at quarterback. … Williams also added 14 receptions for 123 yards and a score. … Played wide receiver as a sophomore, making 27 catches for 694 yards and eight touchdowns. … Has piled up 1,583 yards and 14 touchdowns receiving as a senior in helping Havelock reach the fourth round of the state 3-A playoffs. … Also has rushed for 514 yards and 11 touchdowns on 51 carries.
Most recent FBS signee from Havelock: Javonte Vereen (Class of 2023) signed with N.C. State as a tight end.
Fun fact: Williams’ older brother, Josh, was a two-way standout for Havelock’s 2018 team that went 13-1 and reached the state 3-A finals. Josh rushed for 826 yards on offense and made 123 tackles on defense.
From the film room: “Cash,” as Williams is known to teammates, is one of those athletes you don’t want to take your eyes off of because he can make a big play at anytime. He combines that athleticism with a high football IQ and team-first attitude. Havelock offensive coordinator Caleb King compares Williams to another Havelock great, former South Carolina and NFL receiver Pharoah Cooper. “His demeanor is a lot like Pharoah’s was in the sense that his teammates love him,” King said. “That was the biggest thing about Pharoah. His teammates loved him, and they would do anything for him. I think the same thing about Johnny.”
*DYLON WORTHEN, Edge (6-2, 225) IMG Academy, Bradenton, FL
In the ratings: (247Sports.com) 3 stars, No. 110 Edge nationally, No. 191 in Florida.
(Rivals.com) Unranked.
(ESPN.com) 3 stars, No. 120 Defensive End nationally, No. 138 in Florida.
(On3.com) 3 stars, No. 93 Edge nationally, No. 104 in Florida.
ECU’s all-time highest ranked tight end: Traveon Freshwater (Class of 2019) received 3 stars in the composite recruiting rankings and was rated the No. 47 Edge nationally.
Other FBS offers: Central Florida, Florida International, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, South Florida, Tennessee and West Virginia.
Recruiting tale: Worthen racked up some major offers from the likes of Michigan and Tennessee early in the recruiting process, and he took unofficial visits to those schools plus Florida State, Georgia Tech and South Florida. But when East Carolina offered April 19, Worthen no doubt received some inside information about the program from his IMG line coach, former Pirate defensive star Ernie Logan. The connection got Worthen to Greenville for an official visit June 20, and the Pirates a commitment June 24.
Career notes: Originally played for Dodge County High in Eastman, GA … Made a name for himself with 48 tackles and 13 tackles for loss in just six games for Dodge County as a freshman. … Moved to IMG Academy as a sophomore. … Worthen’s teams at IMG have produced an overall record of 25-3 during his three seasons, including a 10-0 mark in 2023. … The Ascenders were tabbed national champions in the NationalHSFB.com final poll. … As a senior at IMG, Worthen made 15 tackles in six games.
Most recent FBS signee from IMG Academy: IMG Academy produced 13 FBS signees in the Class of 2024, led by offensive tackle Jordan Seaton (Colorado) and running back Jerrick Gibson (Texas). Seaton is starting at left offensive tackle for the Buffaloes as a true freshman, while Gibson has rushed 68 times for 342 yards and scored twice for the Longhorns.
Fun fact: Worthen’s older brother, Daylon Gordon, is a junior running back for Georgia Tech.
From the film room: Worthen is a true sideline-to-sideline player, whether he’s lined up on the edge or at an inside linebacker position. He’s a natural ballhawk, which is a term usually used to describe a defensive back. But it applies here because of the way Worthen’s eyes remain focused on the ball at all times, which allows him to arrive at the point of attack ahead of schedule more times than not.
