GREENVILLE — East Carolina managed to handle the pace that Mount Olive brought to Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum on Tuesday night as the Pirates moved to 3-0 with a 110-73 win.
“I told these guys this game was going to be fast,” said ECU coach Mike Schwartz on the Pirate radio network. ” … In my 27 years of coaching, I haven’t played a team in any level I’ve been at that plays at that pace.”
C.J. Walker had 24 points and nine rebounds for ECU, which forged a 58-40 lead at the half.
R.J. Felton had 19 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists in the win.
Jordan Riley finished with 15 points. Cam Hayes and Jayshayne Woodard each contributed 11 points.
The Pirates made 42 of 79 field goal attempts, 53.2 percent, and outrebounded the Division III Trojans, 60-33.
Mount Olive slipped to 0-3 in its third straight up-tempo setback. The Trojans lost their season opener, 143-91, at UNC-Wilmington on Nov. 4, and were defeated, 101-68, at Richmond on Nov. 6.
ECU hosts George Mason on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Patriots topped the Pirates, 81-59, in Fairfax, VA, last season.
George Mason is 2-1 with a home game against Central Michigan on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
