GREENVILLE — R.J. Felton had his fifth career double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds to lead East Carolina to a 63-59 nonconference win over Coastal Carolina at Willians Arena in Minges Coliseum on Saturday.
The Pirates improved to 2-0 going into a home game against Mount Olive on Tuesday at 7 p.m. (ESPN+).
Jordan Riley added 14 points and seven rebounds for ECU. C.J. Walker had 11 points in the win.
Rasheed Jones had 20 points for the Chanticleers (1-1).
The visitors had an early 12-7 advantage and held their last lead at 27-26 with 17:55 to go.
Walker made a free throw with 17:01 left to tie the score at 27. Felton scored on the interior to put ECU ahead to stay at 29-27 with 16:15 remaining.
The Pirates surged to their largest lead at 57-48 with just over three minutes to go.
ECU made just eight of 31 field goal attempts (25.8 percent) in the first half, but managed a 24-22 lead at the break. The Pirates warmed to nine for 20 in the second half (45.0 percent).
ECU had a 40-33 rebounding advantage. Each team committed just four turnovers.
The Pirates made 25 of 40 free throws (62.5 percent) compared 11 of 18 for Coastal (61.1 percent).
