GREENVILLE — Duke’s lengthy string of losses on the road to East Carolina came to an end Tuesday night as the No. 9 Blue Devils hit three home runs in a 5-2 win over No. 6 ECU at Clark-LeClair Stadium..
Duke’s last win in Greenville was in 1996. when the Pirates played home games at Harrington Field.
The Blue Devils (33-14) never trailed after Ben Miller’s solo home run to left center in the top of the first inning.
A.J. Gracia was hit by a pitch from Erik Ritchie (1-1) after the initial homer. Gracia moved to third on a single by Alex Stone and scored for a 2-0 lead in the opening inning on an ECU error.
Back-to-back homers by Kyle Johnson and Zac Morris in the fourth gave Duke a 4-0 lead.
Jacob Starling singled in the fourth for the first hit for the Pirates (37-10).
Ryan Higgins (2-1), one of seven pitchers for Duke, got the win. Charlie Beilenson picked up his 10th save.
Justin Wilcoxen scored both runs for the Pirates — on a fielder’s choice by Ryley Johnson in the fifth and on a grounder to first by Joey Berini in the ninth.
ECU starts a 3-game American Athletic Conference series at Tulane on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
