GREENVILLE — No. 11 East Carolina completed a 3-game sweep of Rider on Sunday with its second straight 7-0 win over the Broncs at Clark-LeClair Stadium.

Cam Clonch completed the scoring in a 4-run second inning with a 3-run homer down the right field line after Dixon Willians had driven in Jacob Jenkins-Cowart with the initial run on a single to right.

Jenkins-Cowart went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run.

Jacob Starling had a 2-run homer in a 3-run fourth.

The Pirates had a 9-3 lead in hits.

ECU starter Jake Hunter (1-0) went five innings, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out six.

“It’s awesome,” said Pirates coach Cliff Godwin of his club’s 3-0 start. “I thought our guys were ready to play today. I thought Jake gave us a quality start.”

Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman followed Hunter to the hill and went two innings with one hit, one walk and five whiffs.

Freshman left-hander Corey Costello threw the eighth inning with one hit and no walks. Danny Beal came in for the ninth and recorded three fly outs.

ECU visits Campbell on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. start.

The Camels took a season-opening series in Buies Creek with No. 17 Cal-Santa Barbara, 2 games to 1, with a 7-3 win on Sunday.
