American Athletic Conference athletic directors approved the league’s 2024 scheduling model this week. East Carolina’s matchups were disclosed in releases from ECU Athletics and the conference office.
The Pirates will host Florida Atlantic, Navy, Temple and Texas-San Antonio at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, while traveling to Army, Charlotte, North Texas and Tulsa. Specific dates will be announced in early February.
ECU’s 2024 non-conference schedule includes games against Norfolk State (Aug. 31), at Old Dominion (Sept. 7), Appalachian State (Sept. 14) and at Liberty (Sept. 21). The Pirates have never faced Norfolk State or Liberty on the gridiron but own a 4-0 record against ODU and a 12-21 record against Appalachian State.
Liberty, ranked No. 18 in the AP poll and 23rd in the College Football Playoff rankings, will represent the Group of Five conferences in the Jan. 1 Fiesta Bowl against No. 8 Oregon.
The 2024 season will be The American’s second with 14 football-playing institutions as Army joins the league while Southern Methodist departs. The schedule format calls for each team to play eight conference games, with four home games and four road contests.
The conference will continue with a single-division format in 2024. The top two teams in the final regular-season standings will qualify for the American Athletic Conference Championship Game.
