Ole Miss co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach John David Baker will reportedly be hired to coordinate East Carolina’s offense. Baker’s impending employment by the Pirates was revealed in a Friday evening report by Stephen Igoe of Hoist the Colours.
The relatively quick staffing move comes after the mutual parting of ways between ECU and former offensive coordinator Donnie Kirkpatrick after the Pirates’ season finale last Saturday, a 29-27 Senior Day loss to Tulsa.

Baker is a product of Texas high school football and an Abilene Christian alumnus (2010-2013) with a degree in Exercise Science and a Master’s in higher education. He played quarterback for four years for Abilene Christian and set a school career record for total touchdowns. In his first career start, he threw for a school record seven touchdowns against Concordia College.
After a stint playing indoor football, Baker served two years as a graduate assistant at his alma mater before spending three seasons as offensive quality control coach at North Texas. He spent the 2019-20 seasons on the staff at Southern Cal.
Baker was announced as Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin’s passing game coordinator and tight ends coach on Jan. 25, 2021, and became co-offensive coordinator in 2022. Since arriving in Oxford, Baker has played a pivotal role in a Rebel offensive attack that has posted some of the biggest total offense numbers in Ole Miss history.
Excited!!! Go Pirates! Believe in Houston!! Good coach , better person !!
