East Carolina has been picked sixth among 14 teams in the new American Athletic Conference’s preseason football media poll released Tuesday.

Multiple coaches noted that Tulane was seventh in last year’s poll before winning the league championship.

ECU was picked sixth among 11 teams last season and finished in a tie for sixth.

The Pirates are scheduled to host the Green Wave, voted first in the 2023 poll, on Nov. 4. That will be the week after ECU travels to Texas-San Antonio. which is picked second for the upcoming season.

The Pirates will play four of the top five, according to the 2023 predictions, as well as three of the bottom four — Tulsa (No.11), Rice (12) and Charlotte (14).

ECU opens league play at Rice on Sept. 30. The Pirates have their first AAC home game on ESPN on Thursday, Oct. 12, against Southern Methodist, voted third for the upcoming season.
