NORFOLK — No. 14 East Carolina scored three runs in the 13th inning for a 4-1 nonconference baseball win at Old Dominion on Wednesday.
The Pirates (35-14) started the decisive frame with a single to right field by Carter Cunningham. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Luke Nowak.
Nathan Chrismon had an infield single with two out. Cunningham scored the go-ahead run on a single to left by Ryley Johnson.
Alec Makarewicz followed with a 2-run single for a 4-1 lead.
That surge made Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman (4-2) a winner. Landon Ginn retired ODU (30-18) in order in the bottom of the 13th with two strikeouts for his first save.
Jacob Jenkins-Cowart had a run-scoring single in the seventh to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
The Monarchs tied the score with one out in the bottom of the ninth on a home run to left by Kenny Levan.

The Pirates limited the hosts to three hits as Garrett Saylor, Danny Beal, Jake Hunter, Carter Spivey, Lunsford-Shenkman and Ginn combined for 18 strikeouts.
ECU had 11 hits, including two each by Lane Hoover and Cunningham, but the Pirates left 12 runners on base.
ECU returns to American Athletic Conference play on Friday at 6 p.m. as Memphis (26-22, 8-10 AAC) comes to Clark-LeClair Stadium for a 3-game series.
The Pirates, 12-6 in league play, are a half game behind first place Houston (12-5) in the conference standings. The Cougars visit Tulane this weekend.
