NORFOLK — Old Dominion went on a 16-2 run to start the second half and took a 71-50 win over visiting East Carolina on Saturday night.

It was an inside job for the Monarchs (4-3), who had a commanding 50-18 lead in points in the paint. ODU only took four shots from behind the arc.

Ben Stanley had a game-high 15 points for the hosts. Chaunce Jenkins had 14 points in the win and Mekhi Long added 10.

ECU (5-2), which trailed 31-30 at the half, was paced by 13 points from Javon Small, 11 of which came in the first 20 minutes.

R.J. Felton had eight points for the Pirates.

Dericko Williams had 10 rebounds for the Monarchs, who led 38-35 on the boards.

Brandon Johnson had six rebounds for ECU and Felton grabbed five.

Imo Essien had five assists for ODU.

The Pirates will be home to take on South Carolina State (0-7) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
