CLEARWATER, FL — East Carolina rolled into Semifinal Saturday in the American Athletic Conference tournament with a 12-0 win in seven innings over Memphis on Friday at BayCare Ballpark.
Gavin Williams (10-0) was in control throughout for the Pirates (40-14). The junior right-hander allowed four hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts.
The Tigers (18-30) had stunned ECU, 11-1, on Tuesday. The rematch saw the Pirates take a 2-0 lead in the second on a sacrifice bunt by Lane Hoover and an RBI single to center by Ryder Giles.
Zach Agnos had an RBI double in the third.
Connor Norby had an RBI single in the fourth and Thomas Francisco had a 2-run homer to right.
ECU added six runs in the sixth on a 3-run homer by Bryson Worrell, a run-scoring triple by Alec Makarewicz and a 2-run single by Norby.
Norby went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Agnos and Makarewicz also had two hits apiece.
The Pirates advance to play Central Florida (30-28) on Saturday at 9 a.m. ECU will need to beat UCF twice on Saturday to advance to the championship game on Sunday at noon..
