TAMPA — A day after clinching the American Athletic Conference regular season championship, East Carolina was dealt its first shutout of the season, 7-0, at South Florida on Friday

The Pirates (38-12, 20-7 AAC), ranked No. 11 by Division I Baseball, were limited to three hits by Jack Jasiak (5-7) and Orion Kerkering.

ECU starter Carson Whisenhunt (5-1) yielded a 3-run homer to Daniel Cantu in the bottom of the first as the Bulls (23-26, 13-14) took a 4-0 lead in the opening frame.

Zach Agnos, Bryson Worrell (double) and Ben Newton had hits for the Pirates.

The teams conclude the 4-game series on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
