GREENVILLE — East Carolina scored six runs in the eighth inning for a 7-1 win over Memphis at Clark-LeClair Stadium on Sunday.
The Pirates swept the four-game series with the Tigers to improve to 26-5 overall and 8-0 in the American Athletic Conference. ECU, ranked No. 9 in last week’s Division I baseball poll, has won nine straight.
Connor Norby and Thomas Francisco each singled to start the big inning for the Pirates. Seth Caddell’s sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third before freshman Josh Moylan gave ECU a 3-1 lead with a 2-run single to right.
Bryson Worrell’s RBI single put the Pirates ahead, 4-1. Two runs came in on wild pitches before Ryley Johnson capped the decisive frame with a solo homer to right.
Caddell’s solo shot in the first and a homer by Alec Trela of Memphis (11-19, 1-7) in the sixth accounted for the scoring before ECU’s breakout inning.
Cam Colmore (4-0) got the win in relief of Tyler Smith, who started and went five and two-thirds innings. Colmore pitched two and one-third innings with one hit, no runs, no walks and four strikeouts. Ryder Giles retired the Tigers in order in the ninth.
The Pirates begin their first AAC road series at Houston with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 3 p.m.
