BOONE — East Carolina was dealt a second straight competitive road loss, 68-62, at Appalachian State on Tuesday night.

The Mountaineers (2-1) took an initial 11-0 lead before ECU responded with an 11-3 run to get back into the nonconference contest.
ASU went ahead to stay at 52-50 with seven minutes remaining on a basket by Isaac Johnson. The hosts made 10 of 14 free throws in the last 45 seconds of the game.

“He’s rounding into shape,” Dooley said.
