GREENVILLE — Jake Kuchmaner pitched into the ninth inning as East Carolina took an 8-2 win over Tulane on Saturday to clinch the American Athletic Conference series at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
The No. 11 Pirates moved to 33-10 overall and 13-1 in the league after building a 6-0 lead in the first three innings.
Kuchmaner, a sophomore left-hander, allowed six hits over eight and one-third innings in improving his record to 4-1. He yielded two earned runs while walking two and striking out six. Sam Lanier got the last two outs.
ECU went ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first as Alec Burleson had an RBI single to score Bryant Packard. Burleson came home on a double by Turner Brown.
Ryder Giles and Lane Hoover had RBI singles in a 3-run third. Packard scored on a ground out by Spencer Brickhouse.
Packard was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the third to give the Pirates a 6-0 advantage.
ECU got sacrifice flies from Hoover and Brickhouse in the eighth.
Packard and Seth Caddell each went 3-for-4 as the Pirates had an 11-7 lead in hits. Giles was 2-for-3. Hoover and Brickhouse each had two RBIs.
The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at noon.
