GREENVILLE — East Carolina scored four runs in the eighth inning to down UNC-Wilmingto 8-5 at Clark-LeClair Stadium on Tuesday night.
The 11th-ranked Pirates improved to 30-10 while UNCW fell to 20-22.
The Seahawks scored twice in the top of the eighth to lead 5-4. A single by Chandler Jenkins got ECU started in the bottom of the eighth and Lane Hoover walked with one away.
Bryant Packard’s double down the left field line brought in pinch runner Christian Jayne to tie the score at 5. Two runs scored on an error by the visitors before Alec Burleson’s RBI single extended the Pirates’ advantage to 8-5.
Burleson pitched the ninth for his fourth save. Zach Barnes (2-2) was the pitcher of record when ECU surged ahead in the eighth.
Packard had three doubles and scored three runs. Seth Caddell went 2-for-4 for the Pirates with a triple and two RBIs. Spencer Brickhouse had a double and two RBIs.
Trey Benton started on the mound for ECU and had six strikeouts in three and one-third innings.
Noah Bridges was 3-for-5 in the loss with a double and an RBI.
The Pirates visit Old Dominion on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
