LOS ANGELES — Top-ranked UCLA rallied from a 5-2 deficit on Friday night to top No. 8 East Carolina 7-5 in the opener of a 3-game series.
The Bruins (25-6) got home runs from Noah Cardenas and Michael Toglia. A 3-run homer by Toglias tied the score at 5 in the sixth.
Toglia had a 2-run double off Evan Voliva (4-2) in the eighth for the winning margin.
The Pirates (25-8) left the bases loaded in the ninth.
Alec Burleson led ECU offensively with three hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Spencer Brickhouse had a hit and two RBIs. Bryant Packard and Lane Hoover also had hits for the Pirates.
Nate Hadley (5-0) got the win and Holden Powell recorded his ninth save.
The teams play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 5 p.m. (ET).
