GREENVILLE — Jake Agnos, Zach Barnes and Cam Colmore combined for a shutout as East Carolina took its series opener with visiting Marist, 5-0, on Friday afternoon.
Agnos (2-1) started and went seven innings as the Pirates improved to 10-5. The left-hander allowed four hits and walked one while striking out 10.
Barnes yielded two hits and had one strikeout. Colmore surrendered one hit and logged one whiff.
The Pirates were led offensively by Brady Lloyd, who was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Spencer Brickhouse and Jake Washer were each 2-for-4 with an RBI. Lane Hoover was 2-for-3 as ECU outhit the Red Foxes, 13-7.
Lloyd had a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 Pirates lead in the fourth.
Alec Burleson’s RBI double started the scoring in a three-run fifth for the Pirates. Thomas Francisco had an RBI ground out and Washer had a run-scoring single.
Brickhouse singled home Bryant Packard in the sixth.
The second game of the series with Marist (4-6) is scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m.
