WICHITA, KS — East Carolina held an early lead Tuesday night in an American Athletic Conference contest at Wichita State before the Shockers pulled away to a 72-55 win.
The Pirates jumped on top 4-0 before the hosts went ahead to stay at 7-6 on a 3-pointer by Dexter Dennis with 15:09 remaining in the first half.
That started a 14-3 run for Wichita State, which improved to 16-13 overall and 9-8 in the AAC.
Isaac Fleming scored a game-high 17 points and had four assists for ECU (10-19, 3-14 AAC). Shawn Williams had 12 points for the Pirates. Freshman Rico Quinton had 11 points, 10 rebounds and blocked three shots.
Seth LeDay finished with six points, Jayden Gardner tallied five and K.J. Davis added four points as ECU lost its third straight.
The Pirates made 21 of 59 field goal attempts (35.6 percent), including three of 15 beyond the arc (20 percent). ECU was 10 of 15 at the foul line (66.7 percent).
The Shockers were led by 16 points from Markis McDuffie. Asbjorn Midtgaard had 11 points. Dennis totaled 10 points and had a team-high eight rebounds.
Wichita State led 47-37 on the boards and had fewer turnovers, 10-7.
The Pirates close the regular season at home on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Connecticut (14-15, 5-11). It will be Senior Day for Fleming, Addison Hill and Justice Obasohan.
