HARTFORD, CT — Host Connecticut outscored East Carolina 44-26 in the second half for a 76-52 American Athletic Conference win on Sunday afternoon.
A 3-pointer by Sidney Wilson put UConn ahead to stay at 22-19 with 4:53 left in the first half.
Josh Carlton had 20 points and 16 rebounds for the Huskies (13-9, 4-5 AAC). K.J. Davis led ECU (9-12, 2-7) with 13 points.
Freshman Jayden Gardner was held to nine points, less than half his average. Gardner had six rebounds to lead the Pirates in that category, but the hosts had a 44-25 advamtage on the boards.
Christian Vital had 18 points and seven assists in the win. Tyler Polley had 13 points, Wilson scored 12 and Tarin Smith added 11.
Shawn Williams had nine points for ECU and Tyler Foster tallied eight. Seth LeDay contributed five points. Isaac Fleming and Dimitri Spasojevic had four points each.
The Pirates host Wichita State (10-11, 3-6) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
