WILMINGTON — East Carolina never led in a 95-86 loss at nonconference rival UNC-Wilmington on Tuesday night.
The Pirates fell to 4-4 despite 30 points and 15 rebounds from freshman Jayden Gardner.
The Seahawks (4-4) jumped out to a 5-0 lead and were on top 46-35 at the half. Jeantal Cylla had 20 points and eight rebounds for UNCW.
The hosts made 29 of 55 field goal attempts, 52.7 percent.
Kai Toews, a native of Tokyo, Japan, had 10 of the Seahawks’ 20 assists.
Virginia Tech transfer Seth LeDay had 15 points and nine rebounds in the loss. K.J. Davis finished with 13 points and seven rebounds for the Pirates.
Shawn Williams added 12 points for ECU.
The Pirates made just three of 16 (18.8 percent) from beyond the arc while UNCW was 10 of 24 for 41.7 percent.
ECU will seek to snap a two-game losing streak when it hosts Appalachian State (2-4) on Friday at 7 p.m.
