ATLANTA — Georgia Tech went on a 21-5 run to pull away from a tie at 15 and the Yellow Jackets went on to a 79-54 win over East Carolina on Friday night.
The Pirates slipped to 2-2 despite 13 points from Jayden Gardner and 12 from DeShaun Wade, both freshmen.
Seth LeDay had nine points and nine rebounds for ECU. Isaac Flemling added eight points. K.J. Davis pulled down seven rebounds as the board battle was even at 37.
The Yellow Jackets (2-1) held a marked edge in shooting. The hosts dropped 26 of 53 from the field for 49.1 percent while the Pirates were 21 of 59 for 35.6 percent.
Georgia Tech was nine of 17 (52.9 percent) behind the arc while ECU was two for 17 (11.8 percent).
The ACC club was 18 for 25 (72 percent) at the line while the Pirates went 10 for 19 (52.6 percent).
Curtis Haywood II led the Jackets with 18 points and Michael Devoe had 13.
ECU hosts Texas-Rio Grande Valley (3-1) on Monday at 7 p.m.
