GREENVILLE — Stuckey Mosley of James Madison made a 14-foot jumper as time expired to lift the Dukes to a 73-72 win at East Carolina on Friday night.

The Pirates slipped to 1-1 despite a game-high 21 points by Virginia Tech transfer Seth LeDay. ECU took a 72-71 lead with eight seconds to go on a layup by LeDay. Develle Phillips was called for a foul on the play, but LeDay missed an opportunity to extend the lead to two points.

JMU (2-0) got 19 points and eight rebounds from Darius Banks. Mosley added 16 points. Matt Lewis had 11 points in the win and Dwight Wilson scored 10.

K.J. Davis had 16 points for the Pirates. Isaac Fleming had 11 points, six assists and five steals for ECU.

Jayden Gardner and Tae Hardy scored six points each for the Pirates. Gardner led ECU’s rebounding effort with five as the Dukes had a 30-28 edge on the boards.

The Pirates lost despite hitting 26 of 51 from the field (51 percent. The Dukes made 26 of 37 free throws while ECU was 15 of 26 at the line.

Lamar (1-1) visits the Pirates on Sunday at 4 p.m.
