GREENVILLE — An error and a wild pitch in the second inning helped Houston take a 2-0 lead and the Cougars went on to seal the American Athletic Conference series victory with a 3-1 win over East Carolina at Clark-LeClair Stadium on Saturday.
A solo homer by Spencer Brickhouse in the seventh inning accounted for ECU’s run.
Alec Burleson (2-1) started and went four and two-thirds innings for the Pirates (30-11, 8-6 AAC). He allowed five hits, two runs (one earned) while walking one and striking out four.
Davis Kirkpatrick went three scoreless innings for ECU. Ryan Ross, who took the decision in a 5-4 loss to the Cougars on Friday night, got the last out in the eighth. Zach Barnes surrendered a run in the ninth on an RBI single by Connor Hollis.
Bryant Packard and Connor Litton each had two hits for the Pirates.
Houston (27-16, 12-5) outhit ECU, 9-8.
The Pirates will try to avoid being swept in a game on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
