GREENVILLE — East Carolina won its American Athletic Conference series with No. 18 Wichita State on Saturday with a 5-0 victory in the deciding third game at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
The No. 16 Pirates got seven and one-third innings from starter Tyler Smith with Ryan Ross, Gavin Williams and Davis Kirkpatrick completing the shutout.
Connor Litton launched his fifth home run as the Pirates improved to 20-6 overall and 4-2 in the AAC.
Litton grounded into a double play with runners on the corners in the fourth but Spencer Brickhouse came home for a 1-0 ECU lead.
The Shockers (19-6, 1-2) committed a couple of errors in the fifth, which helped the Pirates to extend their lead to 4-0. Bryant Packard had an RBI single to left that scored Chandler Jenkins. Nick Barber scored on a passed ball. Jake Washer had a run-scoring ground out with the bases loaded.
Litton homered to left in the eighth.
Smith (4-0) allowed five hits and one walk while striking out five. The shutout was ECU’s fifth of the season.
The Pirates made the most of four hits by Litton (home run), Lloyd (double), Packard and Washer.
ECU hosts UNC-Wilmington on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
