GREENVILLE — East Carolina scored four runs in the fourth inning for a 5-1 win over Duke on Wednesday night as the Pirates swept the nonconference regular-season series with the Blue Devils.

ECU (25-24) took a 9-4 win over Duke (24-24) at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on March 14.

The Blue Devils got a leadoff double from Jimmy Herron and took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Griffin Conine’s RBI single.

ECU tied the score in the bottom of the first after Charlie Yorgen walked. Yorgen stole second and third before scoring on a grounder to second by Eric Tyler.

The big fourth inning started with a one-out bunt single by freshman Bryant Packard. Wesley Phillips was out at first on a play that put Packard at second.

ECU took a 2-1 lead on an RBI single by Turner Brown after a walk to Spencer Brickhouse.

T.J. Riles drew a walk before Dwanya Williams-Sutton had an RBI single for a 3-1 Pirates lead.

Yorgen and Tyler were each hit by pitches with the bases loaded to force in runs that pushed ECU’s advantage to 5-1.

Senior right-hander Kirk Morgan (2-0) started and went six innings for the win. Morgan allowed five hits and an earned run while striking out five without a walk.

Trey Smith pitched two scoreless innings and Matt Bridges checked the visitors in the ninth.

Matt Mervis (2-2) absorbed the loss.

Brickhouse had two of the Pirates’ seven hits and Tyler finished with two RBIs.

ECU snapped a three-game losing streak going into a three-game American Athletic Conference series with Memphis at Clark-LeClair Stadium that gets started on Friday at 6:30 p.m..
