GREENVILLE — A seven-run seventh inning sent East Carolina to an 8-5 win over Towson on Saturday, giving the Pirates the series victory after a 9-4 ECU triumph on Friday night.

The Pirates (16-8) bid for a sweep of the Tigers (8-9) in a 1 p.m. meeting today.

Towson led 2-1 before ECU erupted in the seventh.

Bryce Harman’s single to center field started the big frame and Wesley Phillips followed with a bunt single. Brady Lloyd reached on a fielder’s choice that retired Phillips.

Dwanya Williams-Sutton collected his second RBI of the game with a single up the middle that brought in Harman to tie the score at 2.

ECU went ahead to stay on an RBI single by Turner Brown. Travis Watkins followed with a run-scoring single. Brown came in on an error by the Tigers.

Eric Tyler singled to drive in a run before Luke Bolka launched a two-run homer to left center.

Freshman right-hander Trey Benton (3-0) went seven innings. He allowed six hits and two runs, both earned. Benton walked one and struck out 10.

Matt Bridges went the last two innings. He yielded three hits and three runs, all earned. Bridges didn’t issue a walk and had one strikeout.

Williams-Sutton was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Brown had two singles as the Pirates had a 10-9 lead in hits. Towson was charged with three errors while ECU was errorless.

A crowd of 3,631 took in the contest on a sunny afternoon at Clark-LeClair Stadium

Pirates coach Cliff Godwin named right-hander Tyler Smith to pitch today, the third freshman starter of the series for ECU.
