GREENVILLE — Jacob Wolfe and Chris Holba combined for a shutout in the second game as East Carolina swept a doubleheader from visiting Charlotte on Saturday.
The Pirates (12-4) won the series two games to one with a 3-0 win to conclude the doubleheader and the series.
ECU got a game-ending, three-run homer to right from Charlie Yorgen in the 10th inning to end the first half of the doubleheader Saturday with a 10-7 Pirates victory.
In the first game, Charlotte rallied from a 6-0 deficit after two innings to tie the score at 7 with four runs in the ninth.
Eric Tyler’s two-run single in the first gave ECU a 2-0 lead.
Travis Watkins launched a grand slam in the second to put the Pirates ahead, 6-0.
Bryant Packard’s solo homer in the sixth gave ECU a 7-2 lead.
Jackson Mims had a two-run homer in the ninth for the 49ers. The tying run scored on a wild pitch.
Joe Ingle (3-0) pitched two-thirds of an inning and got the win in relief.
Packard walked with two away and Dusty Baker singled in the 10th before Yorgen connected with a 3-1 pitch from Matt Brooks (2-1).
Wolfe (2-0) allowed two hits over seven innings in the second game. He walked two and struck out four. Holba did not allow a hit and struck out two in two innings to get his first save.
Singles from Yorgen and Dusty Baker got the Pirates started in the bottom of the first inning in the second game.
Yorgen scored on a passed ball for a 1-0 lead.
Tyler led off the bottom of the seventh with a bunt single and went to third on a single by Packard. Tyler came home on a wild pitch for a 2-0 ECU advantage.
The Pirates added a run in the eighth after Baker singled. He went to second on a wild pitch and took third on a single to left by Watkins. A sacrifice fly by Spencer Brickhouse gave ECU a 3-0 lead.
Baker was 3-for-4 as the Pirates had 11 hits in the second game. Yorgen, Tyler and Packard had two hits each.
The 49ers (10-6) took a 2-0 win in the opening game Friday.
ECU visits Duke on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. start.
