TULSA, OK — Tulsa made 12 of its 22 attempts from beyond the arc (54.5 percent) in a 74-66 American Athletic Conference win over visiting East Carolina on Sunday.
Junior Etou hit seven of eight field goal tries and five of six free throws as he scored a game-high 23 points for the Golden Hurricane (14-14, 8-8 AAC).
Tulsa evened the season series with the Pirates after a 69-66 loss in Greenville on Jan. 25.
Etou, a 6 feet, 7 inch, 240-pound junior from the Republic of Congo, played two seasons at Rutgers. He made four of five 3-pointers against ECU at the Reynolds Center.
Corey Henderson had 14 points for Tulsa. Sterling Taplin had 13 points and nine assists. Martins Igbanu added 10 points and eight rebounds for the hosts.
The Pirates (13-16, 5-11) were led by 20 points from Caleb White, who became the fifth player in school history to reach the 1,500-point plateau.
Kentrell Barkley added 19 points for ECU. Jeremy Sheppard had nine points, three assists and two steals.
Andre Washington had six points and five rebounds in 23 minutes before fouling out.
Deng Riak had four points and 10 rebounds as the Pirates led 29-28 on the boards.
A 3-pointer by White gave ECU its last lead at 30-29 with 19:28 remaining.
Etou scored in the paint on a feed from Taplin to put the Golden Hurricane ahead to stay at 31-30 with 19:02 to play.
The Pirates host Connecticut (14-14, 9-7) for Senior Night on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ECU lost 72-65 to the Huskies in Hartford on Jan. 22.
UConn was topped 69-61 at home by league-leading Southern Methodist (25-4, 15-1) on Saturday.
