GREENVILLE — East Carolina hit three home runs on Saturday in winning its series with LaSalle. The Pirates took game two against the Explorers, 8-4.
Travis Watkins homered to right field in the bottom of the second for a 1-0 ECU lead.
Luke Bolka launched a grand slam to right center to put the Pirates ahead 5-0 in the third. The bases were loaded after Charlie Yorgen led off with a double, Eric Tyler walked and Spencer Brickhouse singled through the right side.
After Tyler’s solo homer to left in the fifth gave ECU a 6-0 lead, the Explorers got a 3-run homer from Yan Carlo Rivera in the sixth to get within 6-3.
Wesley Phillips had a 2-run double for the Pirates in the seventh to complete the scoring for ECU (3-3).
Ben Faso had an RBI ground out for La Salle in the ninth.
Senior left-hander Jacob Wolfe (1-0) went five and one-third innings for the win. He allowed two hits and three runs (all earned) while waking three and striking out two.
Sam Lanier added one and two-thirds innings in relief, yielding one hit and fanning three.
Freshman Jake Agnos pitched the last two innings. He allowed two hits and one earned run while walking one and striking out two.
Yorgen, Tyler and Watkins had two hits each for the Pirates.
ECU had 10 hits and left seven on base.
The Pirates go for a series sweep at 1 p.m. today with freshman right-hander Trey Benton (0-0) scheduled to start for ECU.
