The last weekend of this year’s recruiting cycle became a consequential one for East Carolina on Sunday when Davondre “Tank” Robinson, one of the nation’s most coveted prep defensive backs, signaled his intention to pursue his college football career with the Pirates.
A product of Santee (SC) Lake Marion High School, Robinson is considered by observers to be the Palmetto State’s No. 1 prospect at the safety position and is rated by 247sports.com as the No. 6 overall prospect in the state.
The 6-foot, 195-pound defensive gem considered offers from Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and a host of other major college programs before committing to ECU after a campus visit.
With National Signing Day two days away, the Pirates’ recruiting class of 2017 is ranked by 247sports.com in the top tier among American Athletic Conference schools. ECU has has received signed letters of intent or verbal pledges from 22 players and is still courting specific targets.
