East Carolina put in place another building block for its defense of the future as Georgia Military College stalwart Brandon Henderson pledged this week to join the Pirates’ recruiting class of 2017. The Greenwood, SC, product, becomes the fifth defensive end in this recruiting cycle to plot a course to Greenville.

Rated a three-star talent by 247sports.com, Henderson fielded offers from a dozen suitors, including Houston, Kansas and Marshall, among others. He took official visits over the last two weeks to Georgia and Texas before picking the Pirates.

Henderson joins fellow defensive ends Tyree Owens (Copiah-Lincoln [MS] Community College), Taijh Alston (Cameron [NC] Union Pines High School), Ja-Quane Nelson (High Point [NC] Central High School) and Blake McClain (Northeast Mississippi Community College) in ECU’s incoming crop of recruits. Owens and Alston are already enrolled and are expected tp participate in spring drills.

The Pirates have received signed letters of intent or verbal pledges from 21 players and are still courting specific targets as signing day approaches.
