GREENVILLE — Southern Methodist had five players score in double figures Saturday with Ben Moore’s 18 points leading the way in a 75-44 American Athletic Conference win over East Carolina before a semester break crowd of 3,698 in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.

The Mustangs improved to 12-3 overall and 2-0 in league play as Shake Milton scored 14 points and Sterling Brown added 13. Semi Ojeleye and Jarrey Foster added 12 points each.

ECU (9-6, 1-1) was led by 13 points from Kentrell Barkley and 10 from Elijah Hughes.

SMU was on top 34-24 at the half and outscored the Pirates 41-20 after intermission.

Moore and Brown controlled 11 rebounds apiece as the Mustangs had a 52-24 advantage on the boards.

Barkley pulled down six rebounds to lead ECU. B.J. Tyson had eight points, five rebounds and three assists for the Pirates.

Hughes also had three assists.

Andre Washington had six points on 3-for-3 field goal shooting with four rebounds and five blocked shots for the hosts.

Each team committed eight turnovers.

ECU made just three of 20 shots from behind the arc.

The Pirates visit AAC opponent Central Florida for a 7:15 p.m. tipoff on Tuesday.
