GREENVILLE — Caleb White scored 20 points as East Carolina took a 69-56 nonconference win over North Carolina Central at Williams Arena in Minges Coliseum on Saturday evening.
White made eight of 15 field goal attempts as the Pirates improved to 7-2.
Freshman Jeremy Sheppard added 13 points and had eight assists for ECU.
The Pirates have won five of their last six games heading into a contest at Virginia (7-1) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Cavaliers were dealt their first loss on Saturday, 66-57, by visiting West Virginia.
NCCU (5-3) was coming off a 62-52 win at Missouri on Monday.
A crowd of 4,638 saw ECU go ahead to stay at 7-4 on a 3-pointer by Kentrell Barkley with 16:01 left in the first half. ECU led 36-26 at the half.
The largest lead for the Pirates was 15 points, 69-54, after a basket by Clarence Williams with 22 seconds remaining.
Barkley and Williams each had nine points for the Pirates. Andre Washington scored eight points and had 11 rebounds as the Pirates led 43-29 on the boards.
ECU committed 16 turnovers compared to 17 for the visitors, who were led by 16 points from Patrick Cole. Rashaun Madison and Dajuan Graf added 11 points each for NCCU. Will Ransom collected eight rebounds for the Eagles.
White hit four of his six attempts from behind the arc as the Pirates made eight of 18 from 3-point land.
