Football RecruitingPirates land sack artists

November 9, 2016 By Danny Whitford Leave a Comment

East Carolina has reached into the juco ranks to fortify its defensive ranks. A pair of Jones County (MS) Junior College teammates, Marques Ford and Cannon Gibbs, committed in recent days to pursue their major college pursuits with the Pirates. They plan to enroll in January and both bring solid credentials to the task.

Ford, a defensive end, and Gibbs, an inside linebacker, offer the potential to make an impact out of the gates. Ford had 9.5 sacks for the Bobcats this season. He also fielded offers from Cal, Louisville, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and West Virginia, among others. Ford was a four-star prospect out of Gibson (FL) East Bay High School.

Gibbs, a product of Flowood (MS) Northwest Rankin High School, was in on 68 tackles and 11 tackles for loss for JCJC in 2016. He had other offers from Louisiana Tech and Louisiana-Monroe.
