Saturday afternoon the Pirates ran out to an early 12-0 lead, but had to battle back three times in a hard-fought 33-30 victory over the NC State Wolfpack. James Summers scored two touchdowns, including a determined 15-yard touchdown run in the third quarter reminiscent of his game-breaking runs during last season’s Virginia Tech game. East Carolina also got solid offensive play from quarterback Philip Nelson, running backs Devin Anderson and Anthony Scott and receivers Quay Johnson and Zay Jones, among others. On the defensive side of the ball, OLB Dayon Pratt, safety Travon Simmons and ILB Terrell Richardson were part of a total team effort. Key stats from the game help tell the story.
