ORLANDO — Host Central
Florida took an 89-69 American Athletic Conference win over East
Carolina on Saturday, dropping the Pirates to 0-5 in league play.
Caleb White led ECU
(8-10) with a game-high 20 points and B.J. Tyson added 19. Kentrell
Barkley and Prince Williams scored eight points each.
The Knights had a
balanced attack with five players reaching double figures.
Scoring 13 points each
for UCF (9-6, 3-1) were A.J. Davis, Adonys Henriquez and Daquan
Walker.
The Knights got 12
points apiece from 7-feet, 6-inch Tacko Fall and 325-pound Justin
McBride.
"We didn't have any kind
of answer inside for them," said ECU coach Jeff Lebo.
The hosts made 32 of 59
field goal attempts for 54.2 percent and were 12 of 27 beyond the
arc for 44.4 percent. UCF made 13 of 24 free throws.
ECU hit 27 of 66 from
the field (40.9 percent) and nine of its 34 attempts on threes for
26.5 percent. The Pirates dropped six of their nine foul shots.
ECU was beaten 48-27 on
the boards. Tyson had eight rebounds for the Pirates.
Barkley had 10 assists.
ECU committed just seven
turnovers.
After trailing 60-32 at
the half, the Pirates held a 37-29 scoring advantage over the final
20 minutes.
"Our guys kept
battling," Lebo said.
ECU will be home to play
Tulsa at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
