MOUNT PLEASANT, SC — East Carolina overcame deficits of 8-3 and 12-7 to complete a sweep at College of Charleston with a 15-12 win on Wednesday.
Turner Brown hit a grand slam in a decisive seven-run sixth inning and Spencer Brickhouse hit a two-run homer later in the big frame as the Pirates (10-3) won their 10th in a row.
Brickhouse had a solo homer in the eighth to complete the scoring.
West Covington (1-0), the fifth Pirate pitcher in the first five innings, was credited with the win. Matt Bridges held the Cougars scoreless over the last four frames for his first save. Bridges allowed two hits, no walks and struck out four.
Travis Watkins started the slugfest with a three-run homer in the first.
Brickhouse finished 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs. Pirates leadoff batter Charlie Yorgen went 3-for-5 and scored twice. Bryant Packard was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
T.J. Riles singled up the middle to drive in Wesley Phillips with ECU’s final run in the sixth inning.
The Pirates outhit their hosts, 17-14. ECU committed a pair of errors while the Cougars had no miscues.
Charleston left 11 runners on base compared to six for the Pirates.
ECU starts a three-game series at home against Charlotte (9-4) on Friday at 4 p.m.
