Richard on Defense groping for answers

I believe Brian Bailey hit the nail in this article. This is exactly what I have observed in all of the games that I have seen - and I've seen theme all. We have rarely had fantastic defenses, but when we have had good defense, we have won games. We have a winnable game this week - I hope lots of people show up and we get a win. GGOOO...PPIRATES!!!

Richard on Another ranked foe pulls away

It was an interesting Saturday game day to say the least. Realistically, I did not expect to see a win, but hoped to see some improvement/progress. I believe I did. We have an excellent quarterback and some good receivers. I keep praying that our defense can come together and play solid ball for four quarters. Biggest problem I saw Saturday, is that the offense (in spite of playing well) had to many three and out situations. As a result our defense I am sure was worn out by the end of the third quarter. Been same thing all four games. It was a shock - but not surprise, to see all of the empty seats in the stadium. We have a real shot of winning against Temple next Saturday - lets show up and support our team. GGOO...Pirates!!!

The Kidd on Glimmers of hope alive, for now

True. The secondary is banged up because they are the only ones on defense that are playing the game on Saturdays. It blows my mind how overweight, out of shape, and just plain scared our defensive line and linebackers are. Don't get me wrong. I have a lot of respect for these young men that are playing the game. I just hate to see the players have to go through a season like this because they were not prepared mentally or physically. It appears Coach Mo made a very strategic mistake at the onset with the hiring of the D Coach. As far as the conditioning of the players......well, it speaks for itself.

It was so obvious last season that our defense was lacking - seems nothing has changed. To win most games, both sides of the ball need to show up. We have seen from last weeks win that the offense is very capable. I was impressed with the performance of Sirk and our receivers, and the running backs showed some life. WE need to get some results out of our defense. We will win some games when we do.

Richard on Thanks Yanks, Pirates perfect on Sunday

I got very excited during the first half at how easily ECU scored - figured we were going to really rout them, but things really changed in the second half. It looked like rather than score, we were just trying to slow down the game and hang on. With the way things were going, I expected them to make the field goal and then win in OT. Our defense has to improve - they still give up to much at the line. GOOO...PPIRATES!!

Trey on Strength of schedule at No. 15

I graduated in 89 and now I live 2500 miles away. In the early 90's when I moved to LA I would wear ECU stuff to sports bars etc...and get stopped all the time with someone saying they love the growing underdog Pirates. Basically we had street cred in the nations second largest market! Now? Nothing and its been that way for 15 plus years and the trend is downward folks not up...I love you..please wake up and smell the coffee. Scotty Montgomery is not the man to take this program where it needs to go and if Compher is allowed another choice I'm afraid being irrelevant for this long will leave us with no path to anything other than being a small "program" with nothing more than scant regional appeal.

Jes Knappen on Strength of schedule at No. 15

Game is on ESPNU and yes, ECU has a legitimate shot at winning.

I expect the ECU - UCONN game will be the first close/exciting game of the season. We desperately need to win this game. It may be the easiest game of the season and define what we do later. Anyone know if the game is on TV? GGGOOOO....PPIRATES!!

Richard Edwards on Schedule change handicaps limping Pirates

You are so right Big D. Skip and Logan were quick to recognize a problem and make quick adjustments. They did not win the big games based on superior recruits. It was GOOD coaching.

I came very close to not renewing my season tickets this year, but I decided to renew them on the hope that we would see some improvement and all of the encouraging stories about new recruits and transfer, etc. Hate to be sour grapes, but it looks like two really bad hires have been made - the AD and football coach. I realize that we are not big money programs like most SEC teams, who can hire and fire short term, but IT IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO MAKE GOOD HIRES!!!

Jes Knappen on League play marks fresh start for Pirates

Going with my gut. It'll be close, but this Sunday the Pirates will find their first win.

Mike Wilson on Schedule change handicaps limping Pirates

You totally right. The only thing bad about Logan was the relationship with the NFL scouts.

Someone please tell me why all I read during the spring and summer was the great talent that ECU has recruited, etc., but they need to get some experience, etc. One of the truly great things that a coach like Logan did, is he developed talent to its fullest potential. Can we hire Logan back? We desperately need him or someone like him. NO ONE ever did more with less.
