Bayou Battle:
East Carolina,
looking to extend a
three-game
Conference USA win
streak, will close
out its 2012 regular
season road schedule
when it travels to
New Orleans today to
face Tulane. The
Green Wave, tied
with Rice for the
second-worst mark in
the West Division,
is pondering its
future under
first-year coach
Curtis Johnson. The Pirates
beat Houston two
weeks ago to become
bowl-eligible for
the sixth time in
seven years. ECU has to defeat
Tulane this week and
Marshall on Nov. 23
and hope Central
Florida loses
out for a chance to
become league
champion. |

Schemes:
Tulane utilizes a
multiple offensive
attack while
employing a multiple
defensive alignment.
ECU will line up in
a spread offense and
use a 3-4 when
defending. |

WORTH NOTING |
|
 The
Pirates can
complete a
sweep of
their 2012
C-USA West
Division
opponents (Texas-El
Paso,
UH, Tulane)
with a win. ECU owns a
14-9 mark
(9-3 at home,
5-6 on the road)
against the
other side
since the
league began
divisional
play in 2005. |
|
 The
Pirates
havent
taken
advantage of
bye weeks
lately,
dropping
nine of
their last
13
contests
over the
last 10
years following an
open
Saturday. |
|
 With four
straight
100-yard
receiving
games,
Tulane WR
Ryan Grant
can tie the
school
record if he
achieves
that plateau
against East
Carolina. Grant enters
the ECU game
just 53
receiving
yards shy of
becoming the
seventh
Tulane
player in
school
history to
surpass
1,000
receiving
yards in a
single
season. |
|
 Junior RB
Vintavious
Coopers
three-straight
triple-digit
rushing
efforts (UAB, Navy, UH)
represent the
first such
sustained
ground
assault by a
Pirate since
Marvin
Townes in
2003. ...
Leonard
Henry (2001)
was the last
ECU back to
record four
or more
consecutive
100-yard
rushing
contests. |
|
 East
Carolina has
received the
opening
kickoff in
eight-straight
games, the
third-longest
active
streak
nationally. |

East
Carolina
outside
linebackers
coach Duane
Price
was
a graduate
assistant
for the
Green Wave
in 2008. |
 The last
time Tulane
hosted
then No. 14 East
Carolina at
the
Superdome
was in its
home opener
on Sept. 13,
2008. The
Green Wave
led 24-21 in
the fourth
quarter, but
a 24-yard
touchdown
pass from
Patrick
Pinckney to
Jamar Bryant
with 1:41
remaining in
the game
helped the
Pirates
escape the
Superdome
with a 28-24
victory. |
