Don't Get Burned: The Pirates are playing on the road for the fifth time this season. Today's contest against the Blazers will serve as ECUs last road game until Nov. 17 as Ruffin McNeills 2012 squad attempts to move to 4-1 in league action for the fifth time in the last six years. QBs Austin Brown and Jonathan Perry have combined to average 309.3 yards passing per game for UAB this season (18th nationally; 3rd C-USA) and will look to use a stable of experienced receivers to burn the Pirate secondary.  After allowing an average of 312.8 passing yards in its first four games, ECU has tightened up its aerial defense over the last three contests, giving up just 195.3 yards per outing (UTEP, UCF, Memphis). The Pirates are just 2-3 in five visits to Birmingham, but have won 11 of their last 16 C-USA East Division road games.

WORTH NOTING

ECU has alternated wins and losses through it's first seven games and has been successful in only one of four away contests. Over time, the Pirates have been exceptional in divisional play, defeating 15 of their last 19 East Division rivals.
Before posting a 17-13 victory against the Blazers in 2008 (two visits ago), which also marked East Carolinas first-ever win at Legion Field, the Pirates suffered through a 10-game losing streak in the state of Alabama that spanned 43 years (since 1965).
UAB committed 11 penalties for 90 yards in a Oct. 13 loss at Houston. The Blazers lead Conference USA with 54 penalties for an average of 80.7 yards per game. After seven contests, the Pirates are the third-fewest penalized team in the nation so far this year.
Sophomore WR Justin Hardy ranks among the top seven active career leaders in receptions per game. ... He has already surpassed the 100-yard mark three times in 2012 and logged three career double-digit catch games.
UAB sophomore kicker Ty Long is now 24-of-28 (8-of-9 in 2012) on field goals during his two years with the Blazers. Thats an accuracy rate of 85.7 percent. Long is perfect on field goals from 40 yards and within, hitting all 17 of his attempts through his 17-game UAB career.
The Pirates have dropped three of four road games in 2012. A year ago, ECU dropped four of six road contests.
Terrell Stanleys block of a Memphis punt Saturday snapped an 18-game blockless drought for East Carolina. ... The Pirates hadnt recorded a knock-down since the 2009 Military Bowl (PAT vs. Maryland) and hadnt swatted down a punt since 2009 (vs. Rice), a span of 39 games.
